I really dont care about what is "newsworthy", I care about what is interesting. In the words of Lou Reed: "Journalists are the lowest form of life. Especially the English." Only interested in headlines and scandals and other sensationalist bullshit. Watch any pre-game press conference from the Eredivisie or Bundesliga and it takes two minutes to discover the difference. The "do you think the Leicester game is a free hit?" question would make you look like a moron in some places, here its just one in a row of dumb or meaningless questions.
Alright precious, calm down! They are doing their job – a job that has also been mine for more than 20 years. But then, what do I know? If they work for a newspaper, it's LITERALLY their job to produce something that is 'newsworthy'!
The press conference scenario gives you effectively a live stream into a raw interview – it stands to reason that not all of it is going to be used in the final product. A journalist wouldn't publish the transcript or rolling video of their work, it's edited and crafted together. As I said before, sometimes basic questions get the best response. Sometimes they don't – but often you have to go there a) to lead up to bigger questions and b) to see if they DO get a response.
Lou Reed is wrong (or, at best, he's generalising). As are you with your 'Only interested in headlines and scandals and other sensationalist bullshit' assessment.
