here and there
Plans to lift the ban on standing in the English Premier League and Championship are set to be announced by the government, the BBC has learned.

It is thought a handful of grounds will be able to use designated safe standing areas before the end of the season.

It would mean for the first time in over 25 years, fans of some top flight football clubs would be legally allowed to stand and watch their team play.

An official announcement is expected as soon as next month.

Moving in the right direction for sure

They certainly need to get votes from somewhere as they continue to rape and pillage the country

Are they just pandering to various pressure groups and organisations in order to alleviate the stink of their crap Brexit? There was all the talk of what we could do differently once out of EU despite having the options to do things differently while IN the EU.

Next up will be the return of Fox Hunting I reckon.
Crap Brexit type choice, crap Covid handling, crap last minute Afganistan evacuation.

Take your pick. I choose 'all the above'. Lol.

That can happen in seats though.

In front of me there is a group of four, two blokes and two kids under 10 and one of the blokes is about 6ft 8. They insist on sitting in their actual numbered seats meaning the giant has always been in front of my son and the kids in front of an adult

Does this giant wear a full length leather coat?

It’s no good ranting on here……have a word with him :)

Seriously though have you thought about moving your son to sit behind one of their kids?
Or does this mean you end up sitting behind the giant and miss the game? :)

That was exactly my thought. He's expecting the tall guy to change seats to suit him when the simple solution would be to swap seats himself!!!

You are not allowed to stand . I’ve not seen anyone standing where I sit and if they did , they would be reported to a steward and no doubt given a warning and chucked out if they continued.

There is seating for a reason , it’s far safer . Period .

you americans......... you're all the same; "LET ME TELL YA SOMETHING", and "CAN I JUST SAY THIS"

Wow, It's hard to believe I know, but Last February, I weny to a Shoreham game, stood up the whole match and had a few pints, my lad had a drink with a lid!

You mean you didn’t take the lid off him!?

Is it though? - Seats provide a low level obstacle and there have been plenty of examples of injuries as a result of someone toppling over one

Safe standing, with higher backs to the seat rail provide a lot less of a trip (and therefore injury) threat

I'd be disappointed if that wasn't an NSC response. I don't think they like us very much as it's certainly done deliberately. We have done musical seats in the past to get round it but someone always ends up peering round the giant.

Have you tried offering him some magic beans.

Sorry, but where are these examples of injuries? If there were, the clubs would have had to enforce sitting.

We always stand at the back of the North, and I can't think of any incidents happening in the 5 years I have been there.

The stewards have never asked us to sit down and are always looking up at us.

Unfortunately it has never gone away. It is illegal to hunt foxes with a pack of dogs but if the police, CPS and Judiciary don't enforce the law so it continue. To be honest the situation is even worse as many times those protecting the foxes are harassed by the police.

It's hard to keep up.

I don't know if the government are being tub-thumping, crowd pleasing, flag waving men of the people to cover up a disgusting shameful sociopathic cock up they've just made, are currently making, or one they know is just around the corner.

Difficult to take seriously a view like this. Basically you are saying you won’t give the Government credit for anything even if you agree with them.

Edit; I’ve just read more of the thread and the number of looney, conspiracy theory posts is off the scale. I don’t know why I have singled you out so my apologies and I’m out of here.

I assume this is a joke. It isn't safer and there's not evidence that it's safer. As for the 'period', what sort of argument is that?!

Rail seating may enable safe standing, but its still a world away from terracing.

If you could buy a ticket to a safe standing area of the stadium and just go and stand where you want in front of a rail-seat (ie no allocated seating) then that would be a welcome improvement. But no club (CERTAINLY not BHA anyway) would ever entertain providing that kind of perk for its supporters.

You don't think a government would release info about a popular policy to detract from a poor one?

We're about half way down the North Stand - we generally stand for most of the game.....we've NEVER been asked to sit. If you ask me, the current arrangement in the North is perfect - you can stand if you want, but there's a nice padded seat for a rest at half time.
