This problem with winning headers was most obvious last night as neither of the 2 central defenders win the headers. El Abd is not the biggest and may not win them but he gets in the way and stops the opponents from getting clear headers.

This thread is pathetic. People have nothing else to moan about so it's time to turn on Greer. And there are more and more people wanting to join in. It's absolutely laughable to criticise him for his performances.

I am not criticizing Greer just pointing out that if and when he makes mistakes E Abd covers them better and as a pair Greer and El Abd work well together and are the best two available.

This is chuffing ludicrous. We have the best defence in the league and a thread is started slagging off the primary member of that defence. Listen to yourselves.
Correct. Greer is 6ft+ and loses aerial challenges time and time again (last night especially), turns his back frequently (see Middlesboro goal). (Thank goodness West ham aren't in the league this season, as his limitations against physical strikers were well and truly showed up last year). The best thing about Greer is his distribution and that has not been the best this season.
We have a good defensive record in spite of him not because of him - the strength of our defence is Kusch, Bruno, Bridge and AEA.
Back to the original post Elphick however would not have been the answer, neither would have been Cook. It is disappointing that Grant Hall left......

I literally cannot believe I'm even reading this thread, his passing wasn't the best last night granted but the reason for this is there was no bridcutt to pass to, bridcutt normally received the ball from Greer and with all due respect to hammond he is not near bridcutts class, I absolutely cannot believe threads like this, what about the 2 raking passes against leeds that created a chance for Barnes which he mis-controlled and the ball to Buckley in behind the full back? Calls for him to be dropped are an utter joke and just shows how clueless some of our fans are, look at the defensive record ffs, but anyway I can rest in the knowledge that Gus isn't as stupid as some of our fans!

Of course you wouldn't criticise GG or AEA, your always to busying yourself having a go at LD. He has only played for the first league game last night and you are all over him (as per usual) like a rash. Some people on here dislike Barnes no matter what and clearly you dislike LD, your opinion about him and his contibutions to the team are so clearly tainted they count for jack....

I dont see how you can call it a pathetic thread. It's a persons opinion and one that a lot of people agree with. You obviously strongly disagree with it but that doesn't make it pathetic.
As fans we will always have opinions about how good or bad players are. I have no doubt that even fans of the great Barcalona slag off certain players every so often.

That is where you are completely wrong. I believe that he has tremendous potential but being young he does some stupid tackles, like last night, and I think that it would do him good to go out on loan to a lower division team so that he can play regularly and get these mistakes out of his system and then come back to us so that we benefit from his increased experience.
That one mistake has proved expensive to us on occasions by resulting in a goal, which is something that we are not giving away much at the moment

So Greer can't defend, even though we have the best defensive record in the division.

but like i said who could come in ,say if poyet did drop him,as the title suggests,
did we make a mistake getting rid of 2 capable centre backs?
Greer had a poor first half but I wouldn't say he csn't defend. It looked like at HT Gus told him to cut out the Hollywood passes and also told the midfield to show for him because it was much better afterwards. Teams are also picking up on our lack of arial ability, shown last night by the number of balls floated to our back post. However we kept a clean sheet so it isn't working that well!
We should consider when quoting our defensive record that most teams come to the Amex and change their game to park the bus. The lack of ambition of most sides I've seen this year is staggering. The exception was Leeds - and they scored twice.
That said I'd take our back 6 (PIG plus back 4 plus Bridcutt) over any side I've seen at the Amex.
