Yes of course we support the Albion, it’s in our blood, but faith the continued success of the club at the levels we have achieved?
That is blind faith, mere credulity.

Hardly blind faith now, is it? From the moment TB became involved, everything has been done to improve over the long-run. If you want empirical evidence, we have steadily risen to the top 25 of 538’s power index (worth investigating if you’re unfamiliar with it https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/global-club-rankings/). That’s little old Brighton and Hove Albion, not Leeds, Villa or Newcastle. He has always said he wants the club to handle staff changes smoothly, no matter how significant the role. Dan Ashworth is a shining example of succession planning in action. Or White, or Cucurella, or Bissouma or even Nathan Jones / Liam Rosenior.

I have confidence that all the work already done in preparation for this day will see us continue to progress. It’s only a bump in the road.

If nothing else, being optimistic is a lot less dispiriting. There’s still a not insignificant chance that GP will turn them down (immediate legend status) but, even if he goes, two long breaks for the new guy (or girl) to have almost the equivalent of a full preseason in before Boxing Day. So, yes, my conclusion based on the evidence of the last twenty years (rather than the last twenty hours) is that this would be a good time to trust the club.

Trying to put myself in Potters position over this and I feel the decision will come down to his impression of the Chelsea leadership, without question he and the Brighton leadership have a strong and effective working relationship, if he feels he cant have that with the Chelsea leadership he needs to walk away.

For every Pro I can see in him joining Chelsea here is a valid and strong counter argument , for example ,

If he feels Chelsea offers CL football and a top 6 option, well Brighton are on a trajectory which brings this anyway , may not be a while but he and the team have proved they can truly compete with the top 6 gang so its not a strong reason .
Chelsea is bigger and has more facilities to support his plans , Brighton may not get to the commercial size of a Chelsea but with the present leadership it will grow and it will do it in a way which is sustainable , whereas Chelsea is yet again another rich man indulgence and as soon as he bores of his new toy they will have a reckoning

and so on



In my view the pull to stay will be very strong indeed, Brighton to Potter is a project in progress and has not reached it full potential and that will bother him to walk away from the potential and also a project that will define him in the future.

My only real concern is if he truly believes the Chelsea job is the only time such an opportunity will come to him , but even then if he believes in his Brighton Project , all he has to do is keep it on track and progressing and there will be many opportunities in the future

I agree, it's been nagging me since the news broke. It was so quick and at no point has there been any indication that anyone from the club has spoken to Potter. Photo's being taken with the team (a complete sham) to hot footing it up to London, verbal agreement and final agreement today, yet no countenance from Brighton. All sounds like this was done sometime ago. If that's the case it just leaves a bad taste.

It’s funny how two people can look at the same situation and have opposite views. You feel a bad taste while I think it smacks of ultra professionalism. Weird but very slick imho.

Yes, sack Tuchel in the morning and then get Potter to them on the same day. All seems too quick. As someone else has stated on NSC there were rumours around the day before amongst Chelsea fans than Tuchel was being sacked and that Potter was front runner. Cucurella, Gilmour, Colwill deals and then this...hmm.
Hopefully we have already started the process of getting a replacement.

Actually doesn’t leave a bad taste for me if that’s how it happened because it sounds like Bloom was fully aware - it more smacks of two professional businessmen being pragmatic and open with each other. Boehly tells Bloom they have been tracking Potter, that they’re sacking Tuchel and will want to speak to him as soon as they have. Bloom says he doesn’t want to lose him but there’s a release clause so if that’s met then it would be wrong to stand in his way and Potter will then make his own decision on whether he moves.
