Sorry, there's opinions and there's rubbish. After beating Palace at the Amex (in what the BBC called "one of the best Premier League performances of the season " we were 10th. How did we do this without being good at any point?

If you feel you have made your decision (which I am guessing Bloom had before the city game) then what does waiting achieve? Surely that just heightens the surprise. With players and managers on holiday you need every day you can get if you are taking a change in direction

I totally agree.

He took an eternity to bin the Fin so the speed this time took me by surprise. This is where I was coming from.

Also, there was a piece in the Argus where, from my interpretation, Bloom pretty much said his decision was taken after the Cardiff game. And having seen his reaction after their second goal I’d say he made it at that moment.

You’re right, he did. My overall point is still valid ie the speed of the sacking of Hughton took me by surprise. In part because of the Hyppia saga.

Tony would have taken the Norwich outcome on board - they sacked Hughton at the end and went down.

I have no doubt after seeing Tony's face of thunder on TV after the Cardiff game that Hughton was 'gone' then.

So, learning from Norwich, the axe was delayed. After achieving survival, the only question then became 'before or after the Man City game'.

And then Bruno retired... and perhaps Tony didn't want to take the spot light away from the send off.

I think you'll find that should be 'when' Potter has a bad run.
If it was a bad run playing an aging championship side with players out of position then yes he'll be off too.

Admittedly I would be going soon after as it would seem it's easier to herd cats than getting a manger to work within the framework of the club.

Which players were out of position under Hughton? - seen this thrown around a lot on NSC but no players played in positions that they hadn't played in regularly before at other clubs.

the back four stayed narrow in the box. to prevent being out flanked the two wingers were positioned as full backs, making six defenders

Hughton was not expecting to be sacked? I hope he has now returned to earth after spending time in Cloud Cuckoo land. Other clubs would have sacked him long before. Only beating one of the teams in the bottom three, thrashed by Bournemouth 5-0, 0-2 at home against Cardiff, throwing away a 2-0 lead and letting in 4 against Fulham in the second half, struggling to beat Huddersfield at home. He may be Mr nice guy but that counts for nothing. Good luck to him for the future and thanks for what He did for the club but Bloom did exactly the right thing. Football is a tough business with no room for sentiment.

Regarding BAME, how many black footballing Nations have Black managers at international level? I see that Cameroon do but Nigeria and South Africa don't. Which others do?

So your saying last season we played a back 6? Simply not true.

The wingers were asked to track back (possibly too much - but that's a different argument) but no wingers started as fullbacks

An idea that the club were underperforming, had put a string of poor results together, were at risk until the last minute of relegation . Of course he did. He talked about mutliple times in interviews through that period and in the Times interview this morning. Its pretty patronising to pretend he didn't.
Thats not the same as expecting to be sacked. By all accounts Bloom made the decision late in the day, Hughton was under impression (according to various reports) that he was being called in to Lancing to discuss the summer recruitment and in his interviews post Arsenal , post Man City he had talked in good faith about "next season".
Plenty on NSC , even those that had argued he should go, according to their own posts, were shocked and surprised Bloom had done it.
Why are you so amazed that Hughton was shocked ?

I think the thing is that Foster's Headband is making out the sacking was wrong because CH was surprised. He's reading far too much into CH's comments. I have been in loads of situations where either I or another person have seen something 'on the cards' but were nevertheless shocked (surprised) when it acually happened. I nipped out into the garden last night and was 'shocked' that it was raining - simply because I thought it wouldn't be. That doesn't mean that Michael Fish must die. FFS.

I don't know if he did or did not, but I think there's the possibility he did. If Chris was set the target 4th from bottom and a cup run he might assume he was safe

I suspect (may be completely wrong) that he may have feared the sack after Cardiff. I thought he might get sacked then.
After Cardiff however he turned things around, performances and results got better and we survived.
It may have surprised him (like it did me) that having seemingly turned the corner and survived he was then sacked

Not sure about that.

I can see that 'progression' was his main target - but it would possibly not be defined as narrowly as league position.

I reckon the reason for the sacking was straightforward - Tony Bloom simply lost confidence that Chris Hughton would keep us up next year.

Any evidence for this? Rather an unreal target to expect a club to improve it's position every year.
