Just for Partridge fans:

I hate archers, The Archers and Jeffrey Archer, they're all deceitful cowards. Actually I've just realised that only applies to archers and Jeffrey Archer and not The Archers, who to be fair, are a bit of a mixed bag.

Try Dannys In Portland Road. He used to run China Hins. The restaurant is good even if it is Portland Road and at least its easy to park.

Trying to remember the name of the first Chinese I ever went to some of the oldies may be able to help. It was in one of the small roads going east of West St, towards Pool Valley could it be Middle St? at the back of Hippodrome and was up stairs on a corner and I went there in the late 50s early 60s

Jade in Western Road is fantastic. I think it is £15, eat as much as you want but not a buffet. Top quality food. Friendly staff and excellent service.

If it is a buffet you want, AVOID Wokmania at all costs, it is completely mediocre. Go to Days or Buffet Island instead.

If you don't mind a short trek out to Hove/Portslade, then you can experience the EXQUISITE chinese food at the Oriental Village in Boundary Road. For just fifteen of your english pounds plus a further 50 pence (service included), you can have ALL YOU CAN EAT from this menu.

Oriental Village website

And its not that buffet rubbish either. Proper table service from attentive and courteous waiters who will cater to your every WHIM. It is a feast for the eye, a joy for the palatte.

Word. Love that place, the food is terrific, the staff friendly. Slightly odd location though, I always feel.

If you want to go out of your way, the Imperial China in Worthing I find is very good. It's just off the beach next to the Burlington Hotel. Quite post though.

The first chinese restaurant I went to, as a child, was the Nanking in Market St.

maybe Ship Street?

the only place i can think of in Middle Street is/was Blind Lemon Alley (sadly lo longer, but an amusing 'duck your head' hatch to get upstairs..), though that isnt Chinese..
