He played well, his first start and now he’s Bellingham level?
Holy mo.

I don’t think it’s meant as a direct comparison with Bellingham, more that he can play the same role as Bellingham.

A bit like Diana Dors was said to be the British Marilyn Monroe. Obviously, not in the same ballpark.

Players here get unfairly hyped, many are never destined to be world beaters. Some though you can tell. Straight away. Probably even watching them in the warm ups. Gomez is one of those. This kid potentially has it all.

Excellent first half from Gomez last night. He and Baleba could be a great pairing. Gomez looked very press resistant, as is Baleba when he's concentrating. Turning us around quickly and getting the front four flying is a mouthwatering prospect. We're all aware that the tactics against the low block are still the issue to be resolved.

We've played ten games in 2025 and it's been noticeable that we've been more effective when we've had less possession. The only two we've lost were the only two where we had possession levels over 60%. In the rest of the matches we've either had less, or close to equal possession. It was good to see last night that Gomez also might have a bit of bite about him. With him, Baleba and the exceptionally strong Rutter, snapping at opponents in possession, we may have more chance of creating moments where a low block team is caught a bit out of shape.

Bournemouth looked to do this to us a lot in the second half last night and it was very effective in putting us under pressure. Luckily, and I don't know if this was just last night, they had only Kluivert who looked like he had the attacking intent to turn these moments into a chance. With Mitoma, Pedro, Welbeck, Minteh, Rutter, Adringa, Gruda, March and O'Riley we have a lot of players who have the talent to take advantage of these kind of situations. Lamptey arriving late with the cross for Mitoma to hit the post shows that the full backs can help provide overloads without necessarily over committing.

You can see a pattern emerging and a Hurzeler style developing. The absence of this has been my main concern in the first half of the season. Gomez looks like he has the profile needed to take it to the next level. Let's hope it continues and it'll be interesting to see how we approach the low block teams in the rest of the season.

For a first start, after only being in the club a few weeks, I thought it was a great effort and he looked really good. As was said above, once he gets used our forwards' runs, he'll be threading through some lovely passes.

We need a song for him!

Probably a stupid suggestion, given we have about 12 wingers, but a midfield three of Baleba, Gomez and Hinshelwood would be one way of picking apart a low block, whilst controlling the midfield. I think Hinshelwood's composure on the ball and elusive movement, could really add something to the mix.

Hurzeler has used him from right back, inverting to add to the midfield when we're in possession.

Superb performance. The difference between MLS and Premier League caught up with him, but he will only get better and last longer,
