Mr Bridger
Sound of the suburbs
That just reminds me of Subbuteo.
Felt a great attachment to The Goldstone Ground. Don't feel that for The Amex.
That's a shame and I wonder why? Have we/you not witnessed enough emotion there yet? I will never forget the sense of pride and achievement I felt drinking in the Trafalgar on Doncaster day, heading out to the ground and climbing the stairs with my dad to find our seats and stare in wonderment at the pinnacle of one man's ambition and all of our collective hard work over the last 14 years since leaving the Goldstone.

And being able to walk to and from the ground. I know it might seem pathetic to some, but the rigmarole of the journey to and from the ground is really off-putting for me.
Yes. On wet days I used to park in Pembroke Crescent and could get back to my car in time to hear James Alexander Gordon.Being home in time to see the Classified Results on the TV! Hearing the crowd and the tannoy announcements if not at the game for some reason
The most shocking thing about this is that someone's smuggled a woman in. Disgraceful !
Before you know it they'll be playing the bloody game soon . Oh!

It was an embarrassment of a stadium, mocked, as were we, whenever a 'big' team played us. 'Seaweeds'.
Yes of course I loved it at the time, the pipe smoke, the smell of wintergreen wafting off Henderson's magic thighs, the wonder of an evening game....
But we were never premiership ready, not even divison 2 ready. The East stand was roofless. The North was 'taken' by 5 Gillingham one afternoon. The owners were always lacking ambition. The ratty Tory council never supported any half arsed attempt we made to develop the stadium. It was mediocre. It had no future.
Yes, I loved it, but I also had the total lack of ambition of the age, and never questioned it. All my school mates had division one club badged bags to carry their homework back and forth at HGSB. We had no pride for our town (as it was) or our club, just affection. No real passion or belief.
Things are very different now. I love my Amex, my comfy seat, my ambitious and clever club, my hard nut chairman, the future we have.
Goldstone has gone. RIP. But it was very certainly not better back then. To think so is delusional.
the team was though and surely thats what mattered at the time, that team fought their way to the 1st division and a cup final
Must have lost only about 4 home league games in 4 seasons during the late 70's wondering when we will get are first 7-0 or 7-2 victory at the amex?
Possibly.
Remember going to my first games in the late 70s. Having a ST in the mid-80s. Goldstone Gaz, Gulls Eye, the Evening Argus seller, Dean Saunders making his debut. Walking past in my lunch break at school. Watching reserve games from the West Stand. Seeing players on their way to/from the ground. Feeling that it was a local's club.
And being able to walk to and from the ground. I know it might seem pathetic to some, but the rigmarole of the journey to and from the ground is really off-putting for me.
Look at the state of the cone under his arm - should be ashamed.Remember going to my first games in the late 70s. Having a ST in the mid-80s.
