I'm undecided. I'm pregnant and although the latest research suggests there's no additional risk to me or the baby, I'm not sure I want to risk it because the evidence is understandably very limited.

However, I won't be able to go to as many games next season, so I wanted to make the most of this season.

Bullsh*t.
It's not a binary thing (do nothing vs do everything)

It's all about that graph. Asking everyone to modify their behaviour a bit in order to slow the spread sufficiently that the health system does not become overwhelmed (because that is when the sh*t will REALLY hit the fan).

No need to panic, and also no need to get macho and pretend it's not real. Just be sensible, be altruistic in how you act and understand that this is about more than you. And listen to doctors. That's it I think.

Its not bullshit.

Nobody is being "macho". My response was tongue in cheek because if you are worried going to a football match you could be worried about going anywhere - going to the game on Saturday is a totally binary decision.

And which graph are you talking about? There are loads which can tell you lots of different things.

I've still only seen two people wearing masks in London.

If you believe that most people will get this anyway (ie the 80% worst-case prediction) you'd probably choose to get it when the health system is not under stress (relatively speaking) so that should you require specialist care you will get it.

As such, spend as much time with other people as you can now, ie go to the game!

i'm not going, and probably won't go again this season unless things improve very quickly which dosen't seem likely. I'm not concerned about going to the Amex but a 73 year old going on a crowded train doesn't sound very sensible, even though the risk is very low.

Best to be on the safe side, I'm going to keep my head down till this virus show signs of going away. Certainly not going on public transport, taxis, crowded pubs etc unless really neceessary.

I plan to go but I have a feeling that it won't go ahead.

I'm with you on that assessment. Resigned to the idea that if I'm going to get it I'll get it. Personally would rather get it over with. I have asthma but otherwise in reasonable health so I neither fear catching it nor having it.

'Normal' flu is deadly to those already vulnerable but we don't stockpile toilet rolls every winter. This seems to be a pandemic of panic, a lot more than a pandemic of a virus. (Not saying it isn't a serious issue for those impacted, just that the increase in risk compared to normal, background risk doesn't seem to warrant the level of hysteria.)

I'm probably not going.

T1 diabetic so higher risk of complications and my gut feeling is that behaving in a slightly more risk-averse manner that that which is being currently advised is a decent strategy. By next weekend there's a significant chance that all games will be played behind closed doors n'est ce pas?

As yet undecided. See how things develop over the next couple of days. Obviously really want to go, but it seems a bit selfish to potentially put people at risk by going to a match when could just watch it at home on a stream.

This graph, below.

You may have been tongue in cheek, but a lot of people seem to be taking the line that if you aren't going to do everything then you shouldn't do anything. Which is a misunderstanding of the tactics being employed.

The point is that it is not just a decision about your personal risk. It's about adjusting individual behavior to reduce the overall risks to society. And especially thinking about those who WILL die if this spreads too fast. Some will die anyway, no matter what, but a lot more will die if this happens quicker rather than slower.

We just need to be thinking how we can each act to avoid contributing to the potential spread and thus help slow the overall rate of growth to keep it below the critical line. Above that line is where the damage increases, both to coronavirus cases (who will not get the specialist care needed) and also beyond the coronavirus, hitting all those other people who will suffer as the health system is swamped. People with existing conditions, other diseases, emergencies etc.

Personally, I know my job is unimportant (even though I get paid fairly well). So I'll work from home rather than commute. Because it doesn't really matter if I am a bit less productive for a while. I'd say the same about most people that aren't doctors, nurses, police etc. But few people really want to admit it.

On the other hand it IS quite important that my family eats. So I'll still pop to the shops occasionally.

(not sure what the relevance of people wearing or not wearing masks is?)
