[Albion] Go on Jason Steele !!!!

lol there are actually Brighton fans who think we would have won that with Verbruggen in goal

Steele’s just a running joke at this stage. It reminds me of David James’ Calamity James nickname in the 90s.

I appreciate he wasn’t helped today by those in front, and he couldn’t do anything about the fourth. He also saved a couple that were straight at him, but their first three goals really were school boy stuff from him.

There comes a point where you have to start questioning RDZs management when he continues to pick someone so clearly out of their depth for such crucial games.

Course he can. He's a goalkeeper playing for a top half premier league club and in the Europa League. If you can't save these kinds of shots you shouldn't be there.
I appreciate he got the first one totally wrong and let Dybala walk the ball in, but that happens when you’re that exposed. The second and third were embarrassing though.

I honestly feel sorry for him at this stage. He’s so far out of his depth.

Not wanting to comment on the performance of Steele this evening, as the way they cut through us shouldn't be happening.
But, if we want to stay top 6 and challenge in Europe, we could do better, someone who commands the box. Night and day between the Roma keeper and Steele. A decent keeper, but I don't believe he is good enough for where we want to get to. What's Ankergen upto these days?

I don't wish to pile on Jason Steele.

He would be great in a system that offered him decent protection.
But he isn't.
I don't think Verbruggen would have coped much better with the way we have played in the last 3 or 4 games.

But it is time for De Zerbi to pick a first 11 and develop the team.
we have to be able to prevent goals.

We give away few chances, but with massive xg.
Unless you have an attack that is clinical, you will lose more than you win.

RDZ won't get a dream move now.
He needs to prepare for next season.

We need more pace in attack and steel (no pun intended) in midfield/defence.

Highlights here if you want to watch back

It's noticeable he never comes for crosses. Gets rounded too easily for the first and perhaps would've been better to come off his line to make the target smaller for the second?

I get we are far too open, but does a better keeper concede all four? You can't argue against his ability with his feet, but would we concede less with someone else in the sticks, accepting we may not find someone as good with the ball at their feet?

I really like him

Great ambassador for the club and incredible playing out from the back under pressure.
With an organised and capable defence in front of him. he would be incredible.

But he doesn't have that and he needs to be a monster shot stopper against high xg chances in our current set up.
He doesn't stand a chance.
not his fault.

But if we're being pragmatic, we need to bin off De Zerbi and bring in someone like Silva or Moyes.
You pays your money, you take your choice.

Sussex but not by the sea
Tonight is not 100% on Steele but for the 2nd he has to do better, he may still not save it, but with what he did he may as well of walked off the pitch. Reminded me of an outfield player going in goal. I had zero confidence he’d do anything. I don’t think his defenders have any confidence in him. He is also starting to lose a growing section of our fans.

For me RDZ has to now make Bart his no1 for the rest of this season. If he struggles then we know we need to address it this summer.
While I’m at it I’d start Baleba next to Gilmour next week and play Gross as the 10. We need a 10 with guile and control and we need more energy and bite next to Gilmour. Enciso is miles off it at the moment.

Second choice now surely
I hope so.

RDZ has rotated as a strategy to cope with the increased number of games.
It hasn't worked, mainly because of injuries.

Regardless of that, we need some consistency in the team now.
Either to build for next season, or sneak into the europa conference league.
