I'm a huge Murray fan - think he was a great buy for £300k and already believe he has delivered more than just his goals (taken the pressure off Fossie to score every game for a start)

I was merely listing the players that have been bought for £300k this season (taken from Wikipedia).

Of course if you are a bigger club you can offer more in the package. I was making the point that simply saying "£300k is/isn't a lot of money" is no kind of argument. You have to look at what the guy has done for us. He's scored goals - he's made assists and he is far from lazy.

Top buy - good price - going to be a top signing.

Great signing, and from day 1 he impressed at Northampton.
He has a quality 1st touch and his positioning as a striker is brilliant. Every cross that goes in, he makes into a chance. Yes he misses the odd sitter, but he gets in those positions.

Before he arrived, Forster was winning the ball out wide and crossing them, meaning he wasnt in the box to finish them off.

With Murray in the team, he seems to be able to make the ball stick upfront, giving some time for the wingers to join the attack

9 goals since he has come is a brilliant return, wouldnt put it past him to make it 10 for the season on Saturday

Just Lloyd, Brady and Case wasn't it?

Case released him didn't he so he can't be too happy at him. Why the hell did we release him actually? Because didn't he end up going to the Gills who were a division above us at the time?

pretty certain he was released due to being the highest paid player. He was Player of the year too!
Spoken to Lloyd a few times and he's very good at spotting raw talent. Not all will come off but I'd be very surprised if he fails to unearth a gem or two

My thoughts. His man management didn't appear too clever according to Garry Nelson's book, but he obviously knows his stuff.

I've read both of Nelson's books and we have only heard his version of events. Nelson had a stab at management but gave up after one season. He's entitled to his opinion but there's another side no doubt.

Lloyd has made some misjudgments like anybody but he has brought in a lot of quality. Whilst Wilkins makes the best of our Youth you can rely on Bazza to get the best from established players.

My only fear is that Murray is a secret that is going to get out very soon.

Murray's becoming an important player for us, for sure. I'd just say this about Lloyd though: this man thought Richard Tiltman was better than Dean Saunders. Was the Murray signing really down to him?
Harsh on Lloyd. Dean Saunders looked like a world beater when playing under Cattlin. When he got sacked inexplicably, Mullery came in for his second spell and stuck him on the left wing where he was absolute toilet. Mullery completely f***ed up Cattlin's team. Fact.

You can blame Lloyd for not giving Saunders another go I suppose, but it is worth considering two things: a) he joined the club in the middle of a relegation battle so probably considered it too much of a risk to try him up front again with games running out, and b) the bank insisted Saunders was sold once Oxford offered their massive £60k.

None of which alters or justifies the fact that he stated tiltman was the better player

I`m going to lump on him next season for top goalscorer.. 28 I reckon.

What odds do you think will be available ?

If that is true, that is also a comically bad judgement.

It's true alright. I agree with you that Saunders looked lost out on the left and that Mullery ballsed things up, but that can't absolve Lloyd of what was, as you say, comically bad judgement. Saunders could have played in goal and he'd have been a better striker than Tiltman.
