My grandfathers and great fathers were at the front in the first and second world wars. They knew being at the front was not risk free. They were at the fronts enduring the wind, rain and snow. Life isn’t risk free. So yes I could spread a virus by not wearing a mask but can someone catch the virus if they are wearing a mask . It comes down to accepting personal responsibility and accepting life isn’t risk free.

I get your point, really, I do.

And in some ways I agree, but the use of terms like ‘snowflake’ and ‘personal responsibility’ come across as very condescending/borderline aggressive. I too feel that we have to begin to get on with living as none of us want to be locked up any longer than necessary. That said, it is also understandable that for many people this Xmas will hopefully be a long awaited opportunity to catch up on time spent with loved ones and they do not want to risk losing that. I do not think we should all be staying away from social interaction, or that venues should be forced to operate at greatly reduced capacities as if people choose to be somewhere then they need to appreciate the risks and responsibilities that go with it.

The responsibilities would include wearing masks in all indoor situations wherever possible, not complaining if a venue enforces this, and generally thinking of others before embarking on a path of “getting back to normal’.

I've come back home.

That's a stupid parallel to make. It's about reducing risk and that's why tanks have armour and soldiers wear helmets.

Soldiers sailors and airmen wear masks (women too)
The gas mask test was excruciating.

I am planning on going, using public transport and wearing a mask indoors, provided I show no signs of symptoms and test negative.

This is the least I can do for others, particularly as I was at a packed, frenetic and largely mask free gig in Brighton last night (The Viagra Boys at Chalk)

My current mood is I have been triple jabbed over two weeks ago and there is not a lot more I can do about it.

If the vaccine is not effective for me, I don't really see what difference trying to manage the risk will make? I am hopeful that should I become infected, I will only have a mild dose, but again there is nothing I can do to influence this other than try and look after my general health.

Daughter picked it up from Wembley at the Euro semi-final or final (she's still not recovered her sense of smell/taste). Having avoided it that time round, the rest of us (x3) all got hit with it last week. I'm pretty sure I caught it at either the West Ham or Saints game as I haven't really been anywhere else. All of us had our vaccines as soon as they became available to us, although the enforced wait after infection means we are still playing catch-up. Luckily we are all no worse than with a regular cold (so far).

Didn’t know the test results told you where you got infected!
Could have caught it anywhere.

A very personal view as I’ve just tested positive, if any of you are in doubt or worry about your health, don’t go.

We hadn’t socialised in the last 10 days, but we went on holiday, wearing masks at all times indoors/on flights, when not eating or drinking. Imho I almost certainly caught it on the flights or in a restaurant.

So, in otherwise very compliant environments, with 99% of people playing ball.

Contrast that to UK trains, Albion park n ride or Amex concourses. Spot the mask.

[I’m not a lockdowns/restrictions obsessive, far from it, but this has been an eye opener. Our household’s work and other plans all thrown up in the air].

Genuinely, take care.

Sorry to hear this and get well soon.

I've managed to get away with Southampton where mask wearing was generally minimal all round and a 50th full of old Brighton clubbing casualties with negative tests all the way. It's a funny old game, but particularly annoying when you've done everything you can and still tested positive,

All the best.

Yes you could catch it through a mask . You could also catch it if someone spread the germs on to a hard surface and you touched it and then touched your mouth so washing your hands is also important.

Also maybe worth considering taking along one of those little tubes of hand sanitiser gel on the assumption that although you may have washed your hands, many others will not have done

Triple jabbed here too.
Evening games are a right faff though to be honest. Don’t finish work until 5:30 and it’s over an hours drive.
Drive home is a laugh a minute too trying to get out of Bennett’s field (held back for approx an hour lately) so generally swerve them anyway as don’t get home until midnight

I'm still going on the basis that I fully expect games to be behind closed doors very shortly, so want to see as many as I can before being left watching from home.

Bloody hope not. Shutting the concourses would greatly reduce risk and be a small price to pay, once in your seat risk is greatly reduced

I wasn't going anyway but if I was I would certainly be giving it a wide berth with omicron so prevalent now in London and the South East. I agree with Bozza and his point on closing the concourses except for using the restroom facilities but it is desperately sad that it comes to this because people are too selfish to follow the regulations and mask up. Could be an incredibly low audience.

I am always stunned by the number of men who don’t wash their hands.

I'd like to see the club take the concourses out of action. Go straight to your seat when you enter the ground, use the concourses only for access to the loos.

And lose all that lovely money from beer and burgers? I can see a Barber essay heading your way when he learns of your (eminently sensible, logical and obvious) suggestion. :D
