So sorry to hear that ... hope you get away with no or just mild symptoms.

I won't be going Wednesday. I have been to see my son today in hospital in Cambridge following his transplant operation. This is the first time in 2 weeks I've been able to go up - due to a combination of him having to go back into theatre and then being sedated for 4 days ... and me getting this wretched cold that's been doing the rounds which I've just got over. It's my 60th today - so my best present was being able to see my son. I am the designated visitor as only one person is allowed to visit ... I just can't take the risk. Getting a cold was bad enough! I take a LFT every day that I'm visiting ... and obviously wear a mask in the hospital ... and I'm triple jabbed ... but that doesn't guarantee anything!

My wife had booked a big birthday surprise for me in London on Thursday - but we've just cancelled that given latest numbers there with Omicron!

As you say ... we need to take care!

Well Happy Birthday to you.
Rotten you can’t celebrate as you may otherwise have liked.
So may special days have been trashed by this ruddy virus ..

There does seem to be worry this Omicron variant is spreading fast and I know several people in Brighton self isolating at the moment so guess our three seats will be vacant on wednesday.

Happy birthday and all the best to your son, that’s more important than anything else. Papworth? It has a world class reputation.

Masks - I recently found out from a trusted scientist on the box that the surgical mask we all wear are pretty good at stopping us spread microbes. But to protect you as well, this common type are a cut above.

How soon is now?
I was due to be away on a business trip that has now been cancelled due to a positive case. My brother in law was going to take my boy so the tickets didn’t get wasted, but now I’ll be going. However, I suspect it may get postponed. As per a previous poster, I can see games moving back behind closed doors and would like to see a many as I can before this happens

I assume this is a spoof account to go fishing with but i will allow myself to be hooked because the message is important.

Good that you are triple jabbed but that does not give you full immunity and current thinking is it does not protect you from omnicron so you can get COVID and therefore you can spread it. The idea of masks is to act as another barrier to stop you catching COVID but more importantly to stop you spreading it.

Masks aren't 100% protection either so by using both you are restricting chances of being a spreader.

My grandfathers and great fathers were at the front in the first and second world wars. They knew being at the front was not risk free. They were at the fronts enduring the wind, rain and snow. Life isn’t risk free. So yes I could spread a virus by not wearing a mask but can someone catch the virus if they are wearing a mask . It comes down to accepting personal responsibility and accepting life isn’t risk free.

Double jabbed and boosted, car park booked, thick Albion mask with a second mask for underneath. Any food will be purchased and eaten outside then straight through the concourse to my seat. Fully masked apart from feeding. Still might bottle it though :D

Spanish flu killed more people after WW1 than the war itself.

i still haven’t been since the 1st outbreaks.

i have a heart condition.
i have a business that i’m struggling to keep open. Me or the Mrs (who also works there) getting infected could leave us needed to close down for some while, and i’ve got 13 staff who we both feel responsible for.
i worry the club will cancel my seat as it’s not getting used.
i worry that if they did that i’ll loose touch permanently with my friends that sit around me.

irony is that I had just got to the stage of feeling things were improving enough to start going again ….

Right now life all seems pretty shite

I’d relax about that. These are unprecedented times, the ST waiting has disappeared I think, shirley Bloom/Barber will be pragmatic about all the regular no-shows during the pandemic.

What must they think of the sacrifice and horrors they endured that their decedent can’t even wear a mask on a journey or for the benefit of others.

Yeah you could spread it by not wearing a mask, in fact you are more likely to spread it without wearing a mask (considerably). It's not fail-safe but it's a simple act to help out others.

Yet you choose not to wear one.

Selfish and moronic.

You can chose to take risks but being an idiot is something some people are just born with.

I am thinking of not going. I am triple jabbed but an hour each way in the ST bus from Seaford, crowded West Lower concourse is making me nervous. Now in my 80th year also makes me think it is not worth it. However, come Wednesday afternoon, assuming game on, the buzz to go to a live game may say let's go.

80?

Give it a rest mate…you only look in your 50’s

Lol.

I won't be attending, not because I'm worried about Covid though. My son who I go with is off ski-ing and I've felt really rubbish for the last week - all the symptoms of Covid but thus far five negatives tests. Disappointed as I'll be missing the Brentford match as well.

So in my mind i am combining this thread with the " team for wednesday " thread and guessing that neither the atmosphere nor the line up will be much to write home about . ( and to save some people the bother of posting i will obviously add - no change there then !! :lolol: )
