A libertarian, born-to-rule, principle-tossing, blustering, non-detail, chancer just happens to be PM when the Pandemic hits together with a cabinet made up of sycophants scared to death of civil-service hating, let’s shake it up, non-elected ****wit Dominic Cummings.

Leadership and the respect of the people is vital at times of crisis. This Churchill-wannabee and his ****ing awful version of a conservative government have failed to strategise and communicate. Dido Harding as head of track and trace was the final straw. A different conservative leader/cabinet would have done better. Labour would have done better. Lib dems would have done better.

There is no point in any data on voting for the government at present, so why worry about it.

Stop you whinging and roll your sleeves up.

Have a great Christmas.

But . . .

You're the

The voice of reason, keeping NSC abreast of what's happening OUTSIDE the BUBBLE, even if they choose to IGNORE it, or me!*

Keep me abreast Mouldy!

For the record I gave my state government a 7/10 and the federal government 5/10.

Thanks to the state government we are almost COVID free. We rolled our sleeves up and did what we needed to do. No whinging from me.

For what it's worth I think your 'most people would give the government 8/10' is a fair bit off. Inside 'the bubble' or out. Nothing you or anyone else has posted since has changed my mind (so much for keeping us all 'abreast' :) :))

Merry Christmas to you too Mouldy and thanks for the laughs. [emoji23][emoji23]

Results in this poll indicates that the fair answer would be "how the **** is anyone supposed to know when there is nothing to compare with?"

If only every other country in the world had had this virus problem, maybe then we could compare?

Yet another sucked in believing that NSC would vote like the UK public, they got Brexit and the election WRONG so why would anyone take a blind bit of notice about this poll?

This was a guide to what the UK might think not NSC.

We know they are within the own bubble of society when it comes to politics.

Yet another pointless poll.

And yet here you are posting on it.

Finally there are a few notable posts again about NSC being left wing and in a bubble and these are getting a bit tiresome. This is a board for a football club that represents a city with two Labour and one Green MP and a Labour turned Green council. It has a fine tradition of counter culture and alternative lifestyles. If you dislike that then perhaps Brighton really isn't the place for you. It's as surprising that these polls end up anti-Tory as it is to find casual racism among fans of Millwall and Middlesboro

You forgot the Greens and the Monster raving loonie party, they would have done better too. even if they'd just sat on the beach watching dolphins

7/10 from me as they've out thought Europe and the rest of the world by ordering vaccines without resorting to politics, see today's report in the Telegraph. Yes they made mistakes, yes some people got rich quick, some people acted as f**ktards on all sides of the political spectrum, but they are a step ahead of most countries.

4 from me. Been too slow in making just about every decision. The way Boris the Buffoon ridiculed the virus -- and proposed responses to it -- in February was simply criminal, and resulted in an awful number of deaths. Ditto with his (now abandoned) position that limiting Christmas celebrations would be "inhumane". The pandemic has shined a light on his optimism versus reality shtick and it hasn't come out well. Rest assured that he'll use his optimism versus reality shtick on another issue.
That said, this is the first global pandemic for a century, and there are extremely difficult decisions that have had to be made, and some of them, they've got about right.

8 for me. Nobody would have done any better and whomever was in would be getting advised by the same people anyway.

I gave 7/10
They've done OK in what is unprecedented times. But I do get fed up with their lies. The '170 to 174 lorries' live quote on TV on Monday summed up their head in the sand attitude.

I’m just glad they opted to try and save lives rather than go for the herd mentality to let all the vulnerable die, which would have been the case 100 years ago. To balance the whole thing whilst the roundabout is still turning continues to be a nightmare for all concerned. Damned if they do, and damned if they don’t.The number of non cooperative people we all have to exist with just astounds me and if anyone deserves to score low, it is them. I am grateful to all those involved in defeating this virus and to those people who have lost businesses and their jobs, whether voluntarily or not, to support us in keeping us safe. Most of the mistakes have been identified in hindsight, which is a wonderful thing.
Just glad it’s not me having to put my head above the parapet to manage this unprecedented human disaster.

I am not certain they have not been going for herd immunity, but just slowed the pace a bit to try and stop the NHS being entirely overwhelmed.

Maybe others would take the advice though? Plenty of advice not taken by this Government.

6 for me too.

I have to say there are things that Boris has done very well (the vaccine, at least trying to balance keeping schools open and businesses going) and other things he could do nothing about. Selfish people who would ignore any rules, idiot conspiracy theorists and mask refusniks. Everywhere has those. He was slow off the blocks but no one knew in February how bad this was and he had Brexit and life threatening floods to deal with already.

On the against we have the track and trace farce that was basically a giant bung to Tory friends, Cummings should have gone immediately after Barnard Castle, you have the man himself shaking hands with covid patients and then getting it at the worst time possible to leave the country rudderless ( ) and Brexit should have been pushed back a year (but not abandoned, I respect the referendum result).

Would Labour have done any better? Personally it would have been Corbyn's Labour and it would have been a disaster. Take the politics right out of it, because furlough and part nationalisation would both have appealed to him, but the man cannot lead anything except a far left angry mob. The country would have floundered just as badly if not worse. Starmer would have done things a bit differently but there is no guarantee that it would have been better.

Finally there are a few notable posts again about NSC being left wing and in a bubble and these are getting a bit tiresome. This is a board for a football club that represents a city with two Labour and one Green MP and a Labour turned Green council. It has a fine tradition of counter culture and alternative lifestyles. I think that political " What if so and so had won " are usually always a waste of time and a convenient smokescreen /distraction. But, I would ask you this though, had Corbyn been leader of the elected Labour government and they had come up with the Furlough Scheme, how do you think that would have gone down on the Tory opposition benches in the Commons ? I can imaging a tranche of Tory's screaming that it would be socialist insanity and that it will bankrupt the country for generations to come..... Lucky Sunak and the Tory government came up with it then ?

Overall I have voted 3/10 for the governments performance, it's pretty plain that many mistakes have been made and many of them repeatedly. Some ministers have shone, many have shown themselves up to be complete charlatans or ignoramuses and some ( Hancock for instance ) have worked mostly very well and have worked their nuts off 90% of the time apart from the odd major clanger or whopper of a lie.

The real problem is, and always will be, Johnson. He is spectacularly ill equipped to lead a government at a time of crisis, unable to make decisions and argue their need, prone to exaggeration and prone to underestimation of situations. He jettisoned many wise, experienced old heads of the Tory party and surrounded himself with the Brexit faithful despite many having huge shortcomings in their ability to lie consistently to keep up the unswerving loyalty to Johnson.
Had someone like Hunt, Stewart or even Gove won the Tory leadership election it would have been a massive improvement on the current incumbent. Sadly, we are where we are and all we have to look forward to is Johnson rushing through a Brexit agreement bill and resigning to spend more time with his families.

4/10 and I think I have been very generous. The difficulty of the situation must not be underestimated but they had the advantage of being weeks behind other countries like France and Italy and never made use of that. The main reasons for the low score were these: The shambles they made of test and trace and their failure to use local government as a part of the plan to manage local responses presumably for largely political reasons. The corruption that has been in evidence in PPE contracts was a disgraceful misuse of public funds. Effectively turning care homes into death camps; a human rights abuse for which I hope someone is made criminally responsible. Overall though the numbers speak for themselves and they are a source of shame. I hate Johnson but I really hoped that he would surprise me as the stakes are so much higher than party politics. Tragically he failed to meet even my lowest expectations.

on PPE contracts, there's a lot of fibs from some quarters, claims made that dont stand up with some further research. but the twittersphere perpetuate the lies so they are accepted. contracts dont get paid out until delivery (and to specification), so the popup companies that didnt deliver wont have got paid.
