Get Me In - surely it can't be legal

I saw this a few months back. You're right Chapper's it as an absolute disgrace and should be illegal.

It would be very easy for ticketmaster to take the tickets back for a refund minus a booking fee and a return booking fee and sell them to someone else. Ticketmaster would make 3 easy fee's and would be happy and people who want to actually see a gig without paying touts prices will stand more chance of going. Obviously if there was nobody on a waiting list then you couldn't return them.

My theory on this is that the government/police don't do anything about ticket touting because they know that many of the people who do it are probably quite underhand anyway so would probably be doing far worse if they weren't skimming off the top of ticket sales

I'm a bit concerned it is rapidly becoming a Ticketmaster/LiveNation cartel, with smaller ticket companies being swallowed up, and then, with no competition (not that there's much now), prices will skyrocket :(

its comical that Harvey Goldsmith and other promoters are pushing for legislation on ticket sales to curb touts, yet offer tickets though official channels for VIP type packages massivly above the face value. cocks.

Hmmm... government restriction of trade isn't generally something to be encouraged.

Artists ought to sell tickets at the door entry, on the night, first come first served, end of story. That would destroy these ticket cons right there and then.

No comments about my idea of a solution then?

All I am seeing on here is moans or admissions of co-operation with touting and gazumping of prices.
Any ideas for SOLUTIONS Northstanders? Or are you just a gaggle of doorstep gossiping sheep?

I hate booking fees with a vengeance!

Taking the above example

£100 plus £11.50 b/fee

Why not just call it £111.50 for the ticket and do away with the booking fee?

Then there is no bad taste in the mouth

Because ticket sales are outsourced to the likes of Ticketmaster (rather than the traditional box office). If the event is cancelled, you'll probably only get back the face value of the ticket and Ticketmaster keep their earnings. It is a con.

In this day of IT advances it must be possible so that instead of having a ticket you just swipe the card you paid for the tickets with then it allows the same number of people in as tickets you brought. That way you couldn't sell the tickets on without giving that person your credit card.

It's a bit like the everlasting lightbulb

Brilliant idea and eminently workable, but...

Would put too many vested interests out of business ???

Yeah, that's the thing - I don't think bands, record labels, promoters, ticket sellers and venues are that bothered that many gigs sell out without minutes.

And touts do get burned occasionally. I can recall Eminem Milton Keynes tickets going for £1...

And of that 60 odd quid, zero goes to the UK Govt in VAT last I checked (as they're "based" in Luxembourg for VAT purposes) and zero goes to the BBC. And about 40% of multi-channel viewing is on the BBC...

Well the other rip off is the "instant ticket" thing where Ticketmaster generously allow you to print off your own ticket using your own paper and ink and then charge you £3.50 for the privilege of doing so !!

Not generally no, but in some cases it is highly appropriate.

I think it is quite pathetic and says a lot about our nation that we are always on the make and trying to squeeze the next person for a margin.

I go to about 30-40 gigs a year and often have spares which on occasion I could make a lot of money on....same with football. But, I have never ever done it and never will. I always sell any spares at face and if the ticket is sought after make sure the recipient walks in with me so they cant sell it on.

For people who do sell above face.....getting a f***ing real job you parasitic cheap skate.

Good point. Why on earth should ANYONE be able to enrich their life eh? It is cretins like you with one dimensional views who are a bane on our society.

A tad harsh...

True though. Too many people view things in a simplistic manner. Stroke your chin and have a think.
