Why would you want to stay at Leeds? I think he'd feel pretty secure of game time knowing he is our record transfer.

I mean when he signed with Leeds, he surely expected to go from there to a big club. Brighton isn't exactly that. If Leeds are able to convince him that next year bigger fish are likely to be in for him, maybe he'll take the guaranteed star role in Leeds over the difficult competition in Brighton.

I think he'll come, but I'm not considering it 100% done.

It’s very possible the release clause included performance related bonuses and/or a sell on clause which we very possibly have “bought out”. This isn’t uncommon in the complicated world of transfer negotiations

Taking too long, this one. Yes, I know, before someone comes along to tell me these things take time, that these things take time - but why, in a simple case of triggering a release clause?
Anyway, it is taking too many pages on NSC (39 and counting) and the bloody Kadioglu one is up in the 80s now, I think. I'll only believe that one when the club makes an announcement.

It’s a fair bit of money but not going to carp, it’s probably the going rate. Just unbelievable any Brighton manager at last having these options now, feels like we’ve finally comfortably arrived rather than somewhat living on a wing and a prayer in recent seasons (luck which definitively ran out during a pretty miserable last 4 months of the season)

Triggering the clause, negotiating the contract, doing the medical... it does take time, if you have time to do things properly. And there's no rush really, with the bid made just two days ago he was never going to play against Everton anyway.

Sometimes you have to rush things but in this case no need to do it - he could say goodbye properly, pick up his belongings, do a full medical instead of a half-arsed transfer deadline one, and both agent and club knows there's plenty of time to get a contract both sides accept.

After we triggered the release clause, reports were stating that he could have his medical in the next 48hrs. I did think that was a little odd. Why not the next 24hrs?

Well, he needed to do the goodbyes being a much loved player.

Then, I suspect the plan is to have him in training on Monday with a view to being in the Man Utd squad. He played on Wednesday night so why rush the negotiations, medical and announcement? He was never going to make the Everton game.

If the club have got any sense, they’ll release the news as our away fans are tucking into their 2nd or 3rd pre-match pint in Liverpool. That will give us a big boost before the game.

I’m really excited for this season, it feels to me that our overall front line firepower is truly formidable, and even though our style of play looks open at the back, winning by four and keeping a clean sheet against Villarreal suggests we’re not quite as open as we look.

I’m really excited for this season, it feels to me that our overall front line firepower is truly formidable, and even though our style of play looks open at the back, winning by four and keeping a clean sheet against Villarreal suggests we’re not quite as open as we look.

Fab did mention in the post match comments that we were far more open than he liked, especially in the first 20 minutes. And if we’d have gone a goal down - as we possibly should’ve - it would’ve been a very different game.

It’s certainly an area he seems very aware of and is trying to address.

Do our fans tend to drink as many as 3 pre-match pints at away matches? I've never seen it tbh!

Obviously it's always good to win any game, but l wouldn't read very much at all into what was, to all intensive purrposes, little more than a training exercise, and a chance to show off our skills, in a friendly match with Villareal.

It’s good to hear. Under RDZ I didn’t feel like there was any real attempt to mitigate the high risk levels, whereas when FH signed I remember reading that when it came to defence, FH had the St Pauli players watching Man City and Arsenal rather than us, and me thinking that was a good thing.
