He's like a much better version of Harley, he's one of very few players I can think of who could replace Bennett, as he likes to play behind 2 strikers. I'd say he would be a superb acquisition but I cannot see it happening in a million years, especially if Poyets no more money comments last night are anywhere near accurate.

The thing about money (if that was an accurate statement) is that he needs to balance the books but it's difficult to see who he could sell to get the likes of Boyd/McCann. Much will depend on where we are at the time and if we are looking under threat then the degree to which TB can and will be prepared to fork out to guarantee survival.

I'm not sure we should 'break the bank' every time things get a little tough.

I would agree with your principal but we need the quality that a player like George Boyd could give us but he would cost a lot of money. Perhaps if we can see out this season Ryan Harlery who is a similar type player may improve sufficiently to offer that quality but in the short term it is a case of spending the money or go without.

And what of Vicente and Buckley?

Not now and not break the bank but in January TB may have to make a business decision Either pump more money in and protect the club revenue or run the risk of relegation. No different to any commercial investment. Do I make it to protect/grow my future revenue or do I focus on short term and try to balance the books now? In business that's largely driven by the amount of available capital and a business case on what return I'm likely to get. You gotta believe he's beginning to look at it now, any sensible business person would, it's planning and risk mitigation, not wait for it to happen and then try to figure out. All this is why I get so agitated by peeps saying "FFS we're 11th what did you expect promotion?"

Meopham, Kent.
Always rated Boyd, would love to see him here, and believe he would slip into our passing style like he's been here all along ... but I can't see us pulling that one off I'm afraid.

One of the big problems Peterborough have with George Boyd [lovely guy by the way] is that Stevenage have & retain a 40% sell on clause. This scuttled the deal with Forest in the past & why Fry asks such a high price for him.

I would love it if it happened! If you play Boyd and Mackail-Smith together on Fifa 12, you'll score shedloads of goals. They have a telepathic understanding of each other.

I noticed from recent comments from Gus and Tanno that we haved apparently suddenly moved from 12th/13th in spending in the Championship to 17th. Our spending power appears to be diminishing at the same rate as our league position.
All seems very odd in the context of our outlay in the summer and in comparison to other cash strapped clubs in the Championships.
Anybody think there is something starnge going on behind the scenes or excuses being lined up if performances do not improve.

I wouldn't swap a cold for harley.

My thinking went £3M for Boyd and McCann ... throw in Harley and it's £3.5M

Cue "you're a wanchor, he's class, just give him time" - fine so he could start at Loxwood tonight mebee - in all seriousness we are unfortunate in not having a decent reserve league where some of our first team can't drop into to improve their game

Seems to me we were about 6/7 in net spending over the summer, maybe higher. I also thought the comments about position driven by spending was poor .. as a sweeping generalism yes but plenty of examples of clubs doing well and/or coping on small budgets

Could we offer cash plus Harley for him and I am sure that CMS would big us up to him to make the move.

Only guessing but I doubt Posh would pay Harley what he is on here, so that would be a non starter(nice thought though)...and Poyet has said there is no money left to sign the sort of players he would want. Find that a bit strange as you can be sure Vicente/Buckley/Hoskins/Lualua are not on peanuts and there just the ones Poyet dont play or are injured all the time.

Does seem a bit of a well timed statement. Our position in the budget market is dropping like a stone, along with our league position...Cms/Barnes/Hoskins thats over £4 million spent just on the strikers and we cant score a goal...Poyet is talking shite!!

Are we really though?

Yes. One of the best young Managers in the game, one of the best stadiums outside the Premier League, players of the calibre of Vicente, a well run club building for the future in the Premier League with a top class academy in the pipeline in one of the best places to live in the UK.

Versus a team of League 1 players in a run down shit hole of a stadium run by Darren Ferguson, who' s grand plan is to try and stay in the Championship at best in a nothing town miles from anything good.

Who would you rather play for?
