english people who just eat with a fork and wave it around like f***ing americans. i f***ing HATE that with a passion. not so much disgusting, more they are just disappointingly suggestible idiots who watch to much f***ing telly. they probably say 'can i get' too.

Americans generally have much better manners than the Brits. It’s very noticeable that their kids are well behaved. There is a basic level of respect for other people which you used to get in the UK but which now seems to be lacking.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I lost a potential girlfriend because she saw me licking a knife in a Pizza Express on what might be classed as our first official date. It had cheese on it from a quatro formaggio. Tantalising. Looking back perhaps i should have obviously scraped the cheese from the knife with the fork i had to then devour, but i live with my decision. I'd think a woman seeing a man with a keen lick to him wouldn't be so put off, but this one was. Oddly, she rather liked it up the bum, and i don't know where relishing a pooey winkle sits on the manners table.

My 9 year old son had his friend over the other day,he never had a 'please' or 'thank you' in him.He asked for a drink and when we gave him the options he said orange juice,well we only had them small cartons with the straw so i got him one out the cupboard.He drank it up,then i stood in amazement as he went to the cupboard and got himself another one.

Mate I am sorry for offending your adopted home. They can be much more pleasant and polite yes. On the flip side they often can be far more insincere and it makes you long for a Brits genuine offhandedness. I am paying you the respect of not pretending to be too bothered about your wellbeing could be one way of looking at it.

One thing we do excel at compared to the americans in general is table manners. thats not really up for debate in my eyes. Its not a personal affront to your adopted home, just an observation. Its lazy and looks imbecilic and childlike this fork business. Its certainly not the worst crime you can commit admittedly but it gets right on my tits.

No offence taken. Americans can be too polite which is just as grating as a lack of manners, the constant “Bless you” when you sneeze and having to shake hands and kiss everyone when you leave the pub borders on the ridiculous. I’d agree that a lot of what they say can be pretty insincere and shallow. What I really miss is the great British sarcastic comment – it puts someone in their place without being really offensive. Unfortunately Yanks just don’t do sarcasm – they think it’s too disrespectful.

Totally agree. We went to disneyland 2 christmases ago and the difference in politeness of our hosts was very very noticeable. And the customer service was unbelievably good.

In fairness comparing your experience of Disneyland, with London Bridge Northern Line northbound at 8am, is hardly going to be copper bottomed proof of Americans' superior manners.

True. Having experienced both (well victoria line from victoria not northern line at LB) I agree. I was just generalising.

We are doing the USA Disney experience this year and I expect far better politeness than those rude French people at Disneyland Paris !

Maybe he needs more opportunities to be around families who set a good example. It's possible that he doesn't know any better.

I'd embarrass the kids parents by recounting the story along the lines of does he do that at home. Trouble is, most parents have no shame and take it as an affront to them. It's not exactly the 1st generation of little shits growing up with no boundaries is it? Parents today knew no different either!

Anyway, on the subject in hand;

Yes it is annoying if you are decent enough to hold open a door, and they don't acknowledge it. Ignorant COCKS.

I'm not too hung up on all this, though, although anyone eating with their mouth open can f*** RIGHT OFF.

Agreed, I've had a few fights with my older brother over him eating like a f***ing pig.

Nope, he has probably been brought up in a home where if you want something you just go and take it, regardless of the situation and who the current owner is...an attitude which dates back to the Victorian era when we built up an Empire.
