Some of the young families in my area are SO BAD for this, and I get a lot of it where I work (restaurant). Rich, self-satisfied young families coming in, letting Oscar and Mungo run wild whilst the adults have a heated discussion about VAT. Blame the parents I say, some of them are absolute tossers.

Oh, and holding the door open for a female. Am I the only one that does that?? I think I must be judging by the surprised (but pleased) reaction I generally get when doing it.

I always do it to. Same reaction.

Holding doors open for people and saying thank you if someone does it for you. Really annoys me if someone just ignores you and doesn't say thank you. Just me??

Yes but I didn't ASK you to hold the door open for me did I?

As someone who learnt the art of opening doors at the age of three, and had mastered the manoeuvre of even the heaviest form by the age of eleven, I actually find it a form of insult that you feel the need to condescend me by holding it open in some kind of demonstration of your superior Herculean strength.

The fact that you want praise from me for his totally egotistical act frankly takes the piss.

Tokyo train manners. I think it would liven up the morning commute though.

i find it the height of bad manners if, after having cooked my guests a fab meal, they fail to do a turd on the plate and scuttle their arses along the carpet like a dog trying to get rid of his dangleberries. terrible etiquette. bastards!

Taking this back to the original topic, it's not just manners but the lack of politeness these days and it's not just the younger generation.

I have the joy of working in Lewes with it's narrow pavements. I often see some of our more senior citizens shuffling along the street on day trips to the town. They walk side-by-side down the narrow pavements and, being a bit younger, I step into the road to let them pass. Do I ever get any thanks or even a polite smile - not a chance. However, these are the same people who, if I stood my ground or even pushed through them would no doubt be writing to the local paper complaining about the lack of manners in todays society.

My kids are by no means perfect but have been dragged up to be polite, say please and thank you. It's a shame some people who should know better can't set an example.

english people who just eat with a fork and wave it around like f***ing americans. i f***ing HATE that with a passion. not so much disgusting, more they are just disappointingly suggestible idiots who watch to much f***ing telly. they probably say 'can i get' too.

Spanish, I love you. I'm not alone.
My Septic Bro (LOL) in law, took the piss out of me for using a knife, last time I was there.
I told him, ' Look, if you haven't got the motor skills to use both tools at the same time, don't take the piss' WANKER!!!!

And yeah, I hate, 'Can I get'. I have told this story loads of times, but the landlord of the 'Traf', when asked this, used to say, 'No, but I can get it for you'.

OLD GIT ALERT

For me, the type of parents who do not feel the need to instill basic social skills and courtesies in their children are the same people who contribute to making British society so shit. We get the basics wrong and end up with generations of children whose behaviour is nothing short of a disgrace. I fear it is too late and we have slipped so far into decline that it is almost impossible to recover to a decent level of morally acceptable behaviour in our children.

I truly hate bad manners. I work as a waitress and the amount of rude people I have to serve every single day is disgusting. It is so difficult not to scream at them when they look at me like im something they have scraped off the bottom of their shoe and then order me around - "get me this", "I'l have that". It really isn't difficult to say please and thank you.

There has been several occasions where I have been hungover or in a particularly foul mood and have snapped at them for lack of manners, which obviously did not go down too well.

Manners cost nothing. A bloke barged in front of me this morning whilst waiting for the tube to Canary Wharf, so I looked at him in a very dissaproving manner - suspect he was French, but I have no proof of this.

Not close enough to him to smell garlic on his breath ? ???

i find the way young folk carry on in general pretty poor these days, particularly where alcohol is involved. some of the shit that goes on at the weekends makes me ,as a parent, rather worried...........access to r rated computer games and porn sites has definitely had an effect on the "i generation"

If you put your feet up on the seat on any form of public transport, then you're a pig. Official.

On a similar theme, why when getting on a train am I one of the few people who wait for those to get off before I board the train?
So many people just seem to barge through without waiting.

Or am I just a bit old fashioned?
