What is more dangerous, cutting military services numbers in a world where technology and threats are evolving and a land invasion is highly unlikely or having a nuclear deterrent in which the potential commander in chief has told rogue nations and/or groups that the deterrent will never be used even if they strike first?

That website says each child at our school will lose £9 under the Tories. How does that correlate with their manifesto that states 'No school will have its budget cut as a result of the new funding formula'?

I have not looked at the detail, but this would for example:

School has 1000 pupils and receives £500,000. Equates to £500 per pupil.

School has to accommodate an extra 18 pupils yet still receives £500,000 (ie no budget cut). Equates to £491 per pupil.

Loads of polls came out today and one last one is due tomorrow. Tories have managed to stop the narrowing. YouGov bottle it late on and change their methodology to give Cons a bigger lead, which brings some sinister questions to mind.

before you bring sinister questions, which YouGov are you comparing? the pollsters publish many different polls for different clients, and their own. if referring to the one that had a hung parliament, iirc it was using a new methodology.

To me, the archetypal CS was Sir John Mortimer, of Rumpole fame, and if only there could be more like him - capable, successful and compassionate.

Successful while mindful of the interests of others to me is what it means to be civilised.

I've never liked that the term is thrown at anyone successful, who reveals any left leaning stance, or any socialist principles. That is a nonsense.

I think the term has a place, where seeking to highlight hypocrisy. But being successful, and having (and sharing) a social conscience are far from mutually exclusive.

Like for like. The model showing a hung parliament isn't a traditional poll, it's some sort of experimental model. Their like for like poll released yesterday compared to the same poll a few days ago went from a 4 point to a 7 point difference due to methodology changes which they have published. To change their methodology the day before the election to herd with other pollsters is a joke. Make it seem close so that their readers think it's important to go out and vote Conservatives, and then change your methodology to give Cons a large lead late on to deflate Labour supporters.

Having watched May's interview with Jon Snow, I don't understand why she's been avoiding all the interviews. She's more than capable of answering the questions, surely avoiding these interviews has cost her votes?

I haven't seen that interview but she has been unable to answer simple questions or provide any substance, giving nothing answers and soundbites, the entire campaign. This is something individuals from sides of politics have commented on.

I watched sky news last night. They were saying how much people would be better off under each parties manifesto.

The poor will be worse off by almost the same amount for all parties. They say none of them will benefit them.

The middle classes again not a lot of difference.

The rich are the only group who are going to be better off under the Tories and worse off under Labour.

The point being is that when this election is over, it's the rich who stand to win or lose. The rest of us have lost whoever is elected.

It all rather depends how you define "better off". The above is talking in purely monetary terms, presumably, and doesn't take into account public services and the like that are provided on top of the cash in your pocket.
