I'm quite looking forward to all the UKIP voters who have never previously had any interest in proportional representation, and didn't bother voting in the AV referendum earlier this Parliament, becoming very vocal in their support of it come Friday morning.

As a keen amateur psephologist, this is one of the great nights of the year. Last time I had to go to a funeral the next day so stayed up until midnight and then woke at 4am

This time I reckon I will try and go through as working from home the next day.

I have Friday booked off, which is a good start, but I also have a two-year old who usually wakes between 5.30 and 6.00 every morning. The intention is to stay up all night until 6.00am or so, but I fully expect to be snoring on the sofa by 11.00pm to awake every couple of hours, blink at the screen a few times before dozing off again.

The first time I stayed up all night for an election was 1983; what a shocker!

Only with the bookies/punters. The Tories have pulled the gap in the opinion polls -- which are far more important than what bets people have had -- but it's been neck-and-neck for a while now, as looking at any 'poll of polls' will tell you. What's even more important than national polls is what's going on in the key swing constituencies -- and, even more important, CON-LAB marginals -- and that isn't giving much in the way of the Tories. Which is why they, and their cheerleaders in the media, are going all out to say that the party with the largest number of seats (irrespective of whether it's got a majority, or can command the confidence of the house) has the right to govern. The constitution says something else entirely.

I usually stay up, not because of the result (we won't know who is PM until later I'd guess) but to see all those politicians attempting explain why their party is doing so badly and trying to brush it off by proclaiming 'it's too early to tell' who will win the election.

This is the frightening thing that the Murdoch media try and railroad Cameron back into power
