What time did everybody make it to last night? I was fully engaged until about 5.30, then I think I dozed on the sofa till about 6.30 when my 5 year old daughter appeared and woke me up.

Up for work at 6, so just saw the first 3 results for Sunderland, where UKIP came second in two and third in the other.

As I've explained many times - any gloating is solely aimed at you and you alone because of the the classless and humourless way you act when things don't quite go your way. You should take a leaf from your compadre, [MENTION=409]Herr Tubthumper[/MENTION]'s book, in how to react with some dignity.

My main interest in this election was that it was set to be incredibly fascinating, and so it turned out - just not in a way that any of us really expected.

The thought of how you reacted when the exit poll was announced fills me with great glee particularly because, as you posted here, "it's just a poll" before clinging onto some hope that the alternative YouGov poll might be more accurate. I like to think that you sat up, mouth agape, as the true horror played out in front of you. Ideally, in my world, you went to bed, clutching onto the crumb of comfort that at least the Tories hadn't got a majority, and that was to be your attack vector today. Then, when you woke, you checked and couldn't believe what you were seeing.

Regardless of how it played out for you, I know it was unpleasant, and that's enough for me.

Luckily was off work today, was set for bed when the exit came in, then I stayed up drifting in and out, am knackered now, just heading out shortly to celebrate the wife's birthday and even though I'm not a socialist the champers will be flowing tonight.

In terms of 'biting', I think it's reasonable to expect a return of fox hunting. Trying to explain to your kids why you voted for the return of bunch of toffs charging around the countryside with saliva dripping from their gluttonous mouths as they watch another poor beast being ripped to pieces by a pack of brutally treated dogs could be tricky?

Completely wrong, I'm pleased to say. Many many Conservative MP's are openly and vehemently against blood sport hunting with hounds. I personally checked this recently, as this issue means alot to me. I completely agree with you that the bunch of toffs (and their working class rural henchmen) fox hunting is/was disgusting. It won't be legalised ever again. A Government trying to get that through the Commons wouldn't have a hope in hell.

Lasted until 2am and set the alarm for 6.30am to resume. Would have tried to watch the whole thing all night as I did in 2010, but had a long day in London today so needed some shut-eye.

Before the exit poll yesterday I thought the Tories might get 280 seats.
Just after the shock exit poll, a bitter Balls, Harman and A.Campbell were calling this a Tory failure, "having not gained an overall majority since 1992". (A smokescreen for their shock Labour failure).
I woke up at 6.30am with the Tories heading for an overall majority.

Talk about 'a week's a long time in politics', this was all in a few hours!

I wrote my thoughts on this in the middle of the night...

The outspoken intellectual snobbery that comes from some (note: not all) on the left seeks to sneer at those who vote Tory. They try to paint Tory voters as stupid, nasty, selfish and/or meek sheep of billionaire media magnates. Voting Tory is presented as being unfashionable.

Beyond that, those who outwardly display Tory intentions with a board in their garden face the likelihood that it will be removed or damaged and, possibly, receive some vandalism to their property too. At the extreme end of this we saw the Conservative candidate in one of the Bristol constituency receive pretty severe damage to both her car and that of her parents.

Because of this I think that in this election at least we have seen a growing number of Tory voters keeping quiet about their intentions until they were faced with their ballot paper.

To be fair to Herr Tubthumper, he has learnt to "react with 'some' dignity", simply because he is so frequently wrong ! He is well practised at it.

Now the election is done and dusted , no doubt Herr Tubthumper will return to another of his favourite topics of slagging off our football club at every opportunity.

After that, he will turn to his other favourite topics, to slag off...i.e. anything that is British as opposed to his native German chums.
