I think you will get a different tory party now. I do genuinely believe Cameron has a heart somewhere. He now is a majority leader which will give him a bit more leeway with his backstabbers in his own troop who looked at him as a bit of a lame duck.

But he'll need the support of right-wing HARDLINERS to get anything done. Awkward.

Tories and socialists both want the same things - a fair and prosperous society - we just have different views on how to achieve that.
This. I never understand why the left (not all of them) think that tories don't care about those that need the help the most. It doesn't make sense and just stinks of bitterness and resentment. I want a society where everyone gets good healthcare and a good education, and our economy is successful and works for everyone.

There IS a pseudo intellectual snobbery in the UK, where it is seen as intelligent to be left wing or left of centre, whilst right of centre is for stupid / gullible people.

Let's face it - whichever party we got last night the outcomes would be in many respects broadly similar - there are of course key differences, but no party is going to knowingly dismantle the NHS or the welfare state - that's all hyperbole. The likely narrow majority is also likely to keep the more extreme elements in the Conservatives at bay (if there are any that haven't left for UKIP anyway).

I'd agree there is a pseudo intellectual snobbery that is currently in fashion - hipsters - however there is also a real one too, as shown by many academic institutions being seen as left leaning.

I also think you're right about there not being that much differences between the parties in many respects. I do think however there will probably be several big events during the next term in which there would be different outcomes depending on the party, perhaps scotland, maybe the EU, foreign policy, NHS.

It'll be interesting to see what develops, what may be seen as good or bad in the short term may well have knock on effects that yield different results down the road.

Jack Straw son lost which was sweet. Don't know how Tony Blair son got on or John Prescott son, Jobs for the sons.

As the search function won't locate the post I made quite a while ago I have to wing it and hope I've got the details right. I made a £20 charity bet with Brighton4Cambridge3 that Nasty Nick would lose his seat in Sheffield Hallam. I lost. REMF is the beneficiary of a £20 donation plus £5 Gift Aid. The donation reference is D71609789.

Milliband due on in a sec to fall in his sword, using the lectern he's taken everywhere during the campaign, wonder who's got the job of lifting on the gravestone with his promises on?

Miliband on now - loads of applause and a smile - he know this isn't a victory speech, right?

That is it.....but some of the left never get this. They demonise Tory supporters. When you demonise people....they will never vote for you. What you need to do is attract these very people, because you need their votes to win an election.

Ed M just about to resign. I guess that sums it all up.
