The issue as I see it is that this election was won not on policies but on personalities and fear.

There is no explicable reason why people who have traditionally voted Labour can swing as they have in many seats to UKIP and Tory.

I've made no secret of my political leanings but actually I'm pleased the likes of Douglas Alexander and Ed Balls have been given the boot because they are part of the arrogant few in the Labour Party who were deeply unpopular.

Labour are going through exactly what the Tories did when Hague and IDS were leading them and until they put forward a leader with the charisma it needs and not a puppet of the Trade unions then they won't win power, despite how effective their policies may be.

I cannot believe how badly labour have done, can they even recover from this!!? It will need a lot of heart and minds in the north.

Labour simply learn to deal with a right wing press and the fact that middle England doesn't want socialism. They have arrogantly ignored both in appointing Milliband and Balls to run the campaign. Regardless of how competent these two might be, they are not electable in the eyes of the public, and Labour need to realise that is what actually matters.

Ed is a goner. The radio said this is the third worst number of seats they have ever one.

How different it (probably) would have been if they had chosen the other brother!

The only way the English (which is where they need to win) are going to vote Labour in is if it is a New Labour style of party.

What are they doing wrong that for 23 years the UK electorate still cannot completely trust them?

Labour have had a shocker, Miliband is a bacon sandwich buffoon, Libs fall on their swords, and yet still the Tories cannot convince the entire country they are fit to rule.

John Major pulled a bigger result than this is looking like being in '92 and he was on the back of an appalling Tory performance in the preceding years.

Come on Tory people, what are they doing wrong that they are still looking like 10 - 30 seats below a majority?

Perhaps not if you are Jim Murphy, Douglas Alexander, Vince Cable, Danny Alexander, Charles Kennedy, Simon Hughes...

along with Ed Balls, George Galloway, Esther McVey... these are all people that demonstrate the power of FPTP.

With any sort of party list system the electorate don't have that power.

Well, where do I begin?

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I was not expecting this result or even the scale of it. No excuses, no hiding, no wriggling out, I hold my hands up and say I got it wrong. I do actually take my politics seriously, I do walk-the-talk, and have invested a lot in this particular election; I feel gutted.

Fair play to those who called it right. I do not believe the UK is on the right track but democracy has spoken and I am in the minority with my beliefs.

Two positives were Hove, and the high turnout....even if they did not back my side; more people engaging with politics is only a good thing.

Peter Kyle and Caroline Lucas will be two of the best MPs in the whole house, Baker has lost his seat, Milliband won't be PM or even leader of the Labour Party and the Sweaties will probably keep us in Europe. All I need now is for Farage to lose.

I too engaged heavily in this, more so than any election previously. It's not the resulted I wanted or hoped for.
