To get into any college in worthing to do A-level you need 5 A-C's.

but you are still deemed a sucess if you get all D's and E's

Thats my point If you need A-C's to get into college, then why not make that the pass mark, not A-E's

Maybe then the standard of education will go up in a bid to come higher on a league table, instead of one where the lowest score is probably about 97%

I dont like the way the figures are produced for Pass rates, it gives a false sense of sucess, and what is judged to be sucess really isnt.

I guess we are like that in sporting terms.

You here things like 98% pass rate, and you think that the school has done really well. But pass means grades A-E, so a 98% rate could be 97% of students getting a D or E and 1 person getting an A-C, but the school is still deemed a SUCESS.

By lowering the standard of sucess to something so low, it doesnt set up the kids well for the future.

Pass rates should be based on A-C grades, at least sucess can have a little bit of respect

Who knows, but a measure of sucessful achievement, no. Thats like turning up to the olympics and just saying you are just happy to be there, and werent ever there to win a medal - POINTLESS

D and E will show that you at least attempted it without being a complete failure. You then go and sit a re-take and try and get the grade you need to get into college

As long as you're happy with what you got, then fair enough.

We had to do RE (or RS, as it was known at my school) and French (which I understand some schools down here don't have to do), and, if you were in the top set for English Language, you automatically did Lit as well.

RS was compulsory when I was at school.

I agree. It's such a vast grade range, there's a huge difference between A & E

Although, I thought a pass was A-C? And I think to get into College only A-C count towards it.

D's and E's are if you want to take a b-tec. Stuff like building and plumbing.

No, but they didn't have to invent extra grades in those days to allow for the FACT that the examinations had gotten easier - and believe me they weren't exactly tricky even then!!
