For argument's sake bushy, if you discount the abstainers altogether, 34 votes from 141, is 24.1%

Voted no. I'd be genuinely interested to know why. Why 'no' to gay marriage? Do gay people deserve to not be allowed into Churches for ceremonies? Are their relationships more likely to fail? Is it a good think to distinguish between marriage and civil partnerships? Really I can't fathom it? Perhaps it's just intolerance of people you see as different? I have no idea! If someone, anyone, can present a decent argument, I'd love to see it.

I am not religious and do not believe in God,but I am old fashioned enough to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman.I am 64,been married twice, both times in a Register Office ceremony.
I think Civil Partnerships are an excellent thing and effectively give gays all the legal rights of marriage.
I don't think for a minute that Cameron has deep seated feelings about Gay Marriage or else why was it never mentioned in the manifesto? He introduced it because he thought it would gain him votes........no other reason. It had never seemed a topic that gays themselves were particularly concerned about either.
Can't imagine many other football club fans forums have had a vote on this topic, but on NSC the present results are predictable. In the real world, whatever polls suggest,I would imagine that the Gay Marriage question hardly registers with most people..........especially those who don't fit the younger, trendier left leaning bods who make up a fair few fellow posters.

Seriously, whats the point in counting the abstainers ? I see it as a yes no vote, maybe itsme , I just see things in black and white terms..........

What are you dribbling on about? It's got nothing to do with the abstainers. Nobody is counting them FFS. 23% of the TOTAL votes cast, are for NO. How on earth is that hard to understand?

Edit. Apology accepted

...Voted no. I'd be genuinely interested to know why you guys think the person you love should determine the rights you have? Because that's what we're discussing here isn't it. Why keep 'no' to gay marriage?

Was there any need for that? People are entitled to their opinions and I don't see you rushing to demand that the abstainers justify themselves to you. Anyway - a lot of those on your list already have given their reasons why.

Do you also think that MP's and the public should also be made to vote by law and punished if they abstain or spoil a ballot

I always think in any equality debate about my left-handedness. We are in a minority of about 10% so similar to gays or the non white population of the UK. So whenever a question like gay marriage comes up I turn it into - should left handers be aloud be allowed to get married or should it be the preserve of those "normal" righthanders?

Yet to find anything righthanders should be allowed and left-handers denied.

Id be intrested to know why in 2013 we still have such a level of intolerance and bigotry

Hmmm,intolerance and bigotry,Camicus.
I am not quite sure who is being intolerant here;and bigotry is quite a strong word to use in this discussion, don't you think?

I believe gays are not allowed to marry in the church of the left-footers. Not sure about hands.

I would argue that the church and 100 odd mps voting against. What people do and who they choose to do it with has got nothing to do with anyone else.

One question, why?

Why should a loving relationship between two men or two women be treated differently to a hetrosexual relationship?
