Gatherings of more than 6 people to be banned

I'm pretty sure groups of more than 6 were allowed to meet as part of the rule prior to Monday?

There was no law to stop them before Monday but the advice was there. Problem is the advice was poorly given hence it was just assumed that as the govt said 30 was the maximum it must be safe to socialise with up to 30 and ignore social distancing.

The death total is over exaggerated. I saw the bulletin the other day and it gave the death total. Then in small print underneath it said something like. The number of people that have died and tested positive in the preceding 28 days. So if you die of a heart attack but happen to have tested positive before, oops it is a COVID death even though COVID didn't kill you.

of course the heart attack was nothing to do with covid, really, what if in order to fight the infection the heart was put under pressure, have you never noticed your heart rate often increasing if you are unwell.

Had you said "run over by a bus" you might have a point

Perhaps I'm missing something here but as I read the guidance and now the law it was not and is not alright to chat to as many people as you like. The guidance was always to avoid contact outside your group. Now its law.

In which case the post I was replying to is redundant anyway. It’s just the law catching up with the common sense most of us are applying in order to help control the infection.

An interesting point of view - having been to Devon a couple of times to visit family I would say it was very much the opposite there. Pubs and restaurants (in very rural non-touristy areas) were acting as if nothing had happened.

It’s not really my view. I was just speculating. Where I live it seems people have been taking this very seriously for a long time. People stand at a distance when out walking the dog and step to one side to avoid contact. When the pub re-opened there was no mingling, just speaking from the distance of separate outside tables. No-one is allowed to drink inside. Might just be my village and not indicative of a country/city divide. I suppose I just based that on a perception that city folk are very fond of their rights whilst us country bumpkins are a bit more community minded but I am happy to accept it is my perception and is in fact an over generalization.

It's very simple, it just needs the Government and population to work together, and take responsibility for what needs doing. We have all known this for at least the last 6 months.

We, the population, should do what we are advised to do by the Government, whether that be WFH, Wearing facemasks, 2M distancing, Quarantine from abroad, No gatherings of more than 6, or whatever. It's all based on scientific advice.

The Government should also do what has been promised by them, and provide sufficient timely testing, a track an trace system fit for purpose and an app to ensure that the track and trace system is as efficient as possible. This is also all based on scientific advice

If we all do what we are meant to do, then we will be in a position to re-open schools, help the economy and minimise the risk. If one party doesn't keep to their side of the deal and let's the other side down, it will, more than likely, be a complete clusterf*** ...... oh

I'm struggling with this new restriction, and I suspect quite a few feel that way. I instinctively do not like being told what to do and have little or zero faith in the current administration's competence. In fact, they have been consistently incompetent.

The new restrictions haven't been debated in Parliament. The Opposition has not scrutinised it - in fact, they are happy to go along with it.

Most of the country do not have the levels of infection which would, in a foreign country, result in us applying quarantine restrictions. See attached link.

I know many on this board have a different view and that's fine. They are entitled to take whatever precautions they wish to. I am just not convinced that we have reached a level where this restriction is necessary.

We need to bring it down to just 2 people per household . We can't be taking risks with this. So many people are dying from this and living on the brink of death, any risk is just pure ignorance. Those who think 6 is a good idea clearly haven't seen someone die from Covid19 yet! Pull your curtains open people and look out the window.
We're in a crisis like no other!!!!

Look, I don't want to appear to be like some sort of stalker, but we do keep ending up on the same threads...

However, having crossed paths a few times now I really do think you are an ignorant, selfish tw@t...

If it wasn't for the fact you are on a Brighton forum I would think you were from some northern outpost where they point at planes!

And breathe!

1. I think the Rule of 6 is a regrettable but necessary step.

2. What doesn't help is when you watch the news and in one story the government admits it is breaking International Law, then in the next story Boris Johnson is at a lectern telling the country we must must obey the new Coronavirus rules.

3. If you want to know what's going to happen next with Covid in the UK, look at the graphs from France and Spain re their second spike, then double it.

No apology needed. I'm just petrified. Once we've got people under more control, we'll be halfway there to saving ourselves from this plague/Covid19. The next stage then will have to be controlling peoples opinions, but until we can control how much freedom people are allowed, people's opinions and views will still be floating around at free will causing the potential for even more Covid19 deaths.

Thank you but I do ..my post was said with some anger ..and I do think we all need to be less judgemental and accept that people lives and experiences are different from our own .sincerely hoping you feel less petrified.

Ps I have seen someone who was hospitalised with Covid back in April ..he was in a ward of six ..gradually it was down to just him ..he doesn’t think six is a bad number ..an opinion that matters?

All the while the pubs/cafes/restaurants are open and those in them don't give a shit.

The country as a whole was doing quite well with lockdown until the Cummings incident, then it was f@#% it if he can do what he wants. If Boris had some balls he would of fired him and lockdown would of got back on track.

recipe for major civil unrest in the New Year as well as a hell of a recession

Well we've lost the right to protest in the coronovirus act so basically the government can do what the f it likes and by law you cant have any sort of event to demonstrate ill feeling toward it. For two years once extended. This government has found a way to prevent any major public demonstration against it through the Brexit deal period, ignoring Grenfell recommendations, recession measures, whatever. Incredibly dangerous state of affairs with pathological liars in charge.

Ah, so it's Johnny Foreigner's fault - clearly you have fallen for Boris' rhetoric about a "second wave in Europe" whilst not acknowledging those waves lap on our shores too...

Nonsense. I have 2 teenage boys and trust me they wouldn't know who he was even if he walked into one of their house parties wearing a name badge.
Blaming Cummings is just playing party politics bullshit. If Cummings hadn't been a dishonest **** do you honestly think kids wouldn't have gone to raves?

I hated giving you a thumbs up, as I really don't want it to be so.. we will be closing the hatches in probably less than a month's time and not coming out of hibernation until the new year, keep us all safe in our household!

A very funny podcast I listen too is hosted by a Kiwi in LA, A Brit in London and a Kiwi in NZ.

'Buttons' in NZ couldn't get his head round the fact that waiting staff in LA wear full face protective visors.

He genuinely thought the other 2 were winding him up.
