Its very hard for people to follow rules that are inconsistent, incoherent and changing from week to week. It just signals "we have no idea what we are doing" which leads to people thinking "well in that case, why should I listen?". Yes people are idiots but if your government keeps it simple and dont jump to different conclusions based on a good or a bad week, most people will follow it to a good extent. But your government doesnt keep it simple. New week, new strategy.
Exactly.

If you meet with more than 6 people, be sure to do it in a "limited and specific" way, that seems to be ok.

Hearing this I realised i had absolutely no idea what the rules were previously. Since the intial lock down slogan, the government have been guilty of issuing vague rules and guidance at regular intervals which have been easy to misunderstand. Finally they are back to a simple message. Lets hope they stcik to simple instructions and resist the temptation to repeatedly alter them.
And this.

I try to keep up with the news, current affairs etc but I've got absolutely no idea what the current rules re Covid are as they seem to change on a daily basis. Nobody I speak to had a clue either. Or they're past caring.

It's a complete and utter cluster**** of monumental proportions.

Anyway, I'm going to the pub before they get shut down again.

It doesn’t take many people to flout the rules to make the whole thing s**t for the rest. Unfortunately there is a huge proportion of our society that just don’t give a t*ss about anyone (including themselves, their friends and their families). There is no answer to it.

Sacking Cummings would have been a good start.

The whole thing seems totally arbitrary. Meeting groups of more than 6 people in some cases literally against the law with the threat fines. Groups of more than 6 people in work, or school, or being inside commercial premises allowed without sanction. I am struggling to understand the science behind this. The last time I checked I did not see the corona virus going through the latest government guidelines to see who it was allowed to infect.

The message is confusing, it has been confusing and mixed from the start. We are now in the 9th month of this emergency situation and still the logistics of track and trace are found to be severely wanting, clearly hampering any kind of informed response to the pandemic. We are left with a government apparently making policy up on the hoof and out of control of the entire situation. All the while handing out millions of tax-payer pounds (and personal data) to their buddies with uncontested contracts for PPE and tracing systems which do not work.

A complete and utter shambles. I can only hope the fatality rate continues to stay low.

You basically posted what I wanted to post but said it better than I could myself!

This government needs to stop issuing petty rules and regulations and let us get on with our lives. For most people this virus is no worse than a bad dose of flu and yet we have shut down the economy and ruined people's lives. More people died worldwide in the 1968 Hong Kong flu epidemic than have died of Covid19, but there were no lock-downs then. Sweden is the only country to have taken a more sensible approach. Stop being so fecking scared of a flu bug!

No it's not. Even cursory research on respectable sites would debunk that myth https://www.kcl.ac.uk/blog-the-ten-most-dangerous-coronavirus-myths-debunked-1

It is more difficult to enforce distancing measures when you're socialising with your family/mates than it is in any of those other instances you mention though. It goes against your natural instincts and your exposure time is greater.

Anyone who has been in an office block or shop recently can't have failed to notice all the screens, signs, bottles of hand sanitiser, one way systems, and distance markers on the floor. The schools are all divided into bubbles and have staggered times for pick up and drop off, and yet more one way systems. You have to have a mask to even go in a shop (the mask isn't for you, it is to protect everyone else from you).

This is kind of where I am. I have no idea what is going on anymore and it’s not like I don’t watch or listen to the news. The whole thing just seems completely out of control.

I needed to do a Covid PCR test the other week, in order to fly back to Dubai. My experience summed up what a shitshow this has become.

First time I logged onto the govt system to book one, I was told to travel 463 miles to Inverness.

This happened the second and third times too.

When I phoned to query this, I was told to wait till 8pm the next day and try then.

8pm the next day, there were no drive-thru slots available anywhere in the UK. At all. Not one. My only option was a walk-in centre 49 miles away, which had a couple of slots in a few days time.

This time, when I phoned to query this, I was told that slots "were now only being given to people with symptoms". As that wasn't me, I couldn't book one.

So I went back on to the system, and this time ticked the box saying that I thought I might have symptoms. Clever me, I thought.

Nope. Same result. No drive-thru test possible in the entire UK.

So I left it, before spontaneously trying again at 11pm. And suddenly, lo and behold, there are slots available at 8am the next morning at my nearest drive-thru. So I immediately book one.

When I get there, I'm one of 5 people who have managed to navigate this farce and booked the 8am – 8.30am slot. The centre has, I would guess, 40 staff and – with six lanes and the actual process taking about a minute – the capacity to handle roughly 150–180 people every half hour.

Yet it's almost impossible to book, and – at best – utterly confusing, frustrating and contradictory.

Why is the new rule not coming in till Monday? Matt Hand-in-cock says the message is 'super simple'.

Aparently the Cambridge vaccine trial has been suspended and Hand-in-cock says this is 'normal.

Indeed - when a trial has failed.

This is also 'normal' in drug/vaccine trials (albeit rarer in vaccine trials because 'biologics' are normally highly selective and hence safer, but hey ho).

Fantastic, yet again, to see HMTG has oven-ready solutions to so many of the nation's problems, and is ready to tell it like it is when they become totally out of their depth (i.e., immediately)

Ballocks. Played my first game of walking football since February on Saturday - first time I've seen any of my mates in six months. Now what? There seems to be a distinction between "organised sports" and "informal games", so as the organiser and I allowed to continue? All player names and contact details are checked, and we play outside, but this Saturday might be the last session for a while.

Sounds like a crap and frustrating situation. Read the problem isn't the taking of the tests but the bottleneck is processing them.

User cancelled onto ignore list.

I took a peak at his post (he's long been on my ignore list for persistent thundercuntery). I see he's inciting fellow citizens to commit murder by failing to make any attempt to protect the vulnerable from this lethal virus. Nice.
