It is difficult though to know the truth when all we have is circumstantial evidence. Both my daughters booked tests online last week (one in Norwich and the other in London). They both had appointments within 24 hours and results (negative) in 48. I have no idea what that means for the efficiency of the scheme as a whole but it does illustrate that it is possible to cherry pick stories to fit one’s own agenda ( whether we are the PM or the leader of the Opposition).

My wife had a drive through test locally last Thursday, still waiting for results..

Is it happening?

How do you define “second wave”? Deaths? Infections? What’s the number of either which allows anyone to make this assertion? How do you know the 30 deaths yesterday were directly as a result of Covid as opposed to positive tests?

At the peak in April we were allegedly seeing thousands of deaths from Covid. Yesterday it was 30, how do you equate that with a “second wave”?

I think you are making a very dangerous comment there.....

Dangerous? Why is it dangerous to have an opinion? The infection rates must be going up or why else are we having all these restrictions imposed again?
Or is it to stop demonstrations? Food for thought.

This.

The job of the Leader of the Opposition is to oppose. Posts saying he should be behind Boris miss the point. It's his job to call out idiocy when it comes to Covid, Brexit, Toilet Paper Supplies, Cycle Lanes, Education and the HoC canteen. It's also his job to form alternative policy on any or all of the above.

However, you can only do so from a position of knowledge and if your are not in the same "science meetings" you don't have it. Therefore you can call for the government to be clearer and better at messaging (and Labour have) but you cannot tell them what to do based on the briefing..

The alternative to that would be to have a government of national unity, cross party, to steer us through the twin difficulties of Brexit and Covid. However, with Cummings at the helm that will never happen and, in any case, Boris and his chums were running around in December like demented Palace fans after a goal, blowing raspberries and crying "we won, we won, ner ner". Starmer has absolutely NO responsibiity to help out the twerps who act in such a manner.

I know you are a mod, so can say what you like, but...

Can you please stop talking sense!

So you would accept the death of your nearest and dearest?

Well, a family member of mine passed away due to having her life saving treatment stopped because of COVID, but those who are scared of their own shadow because of COVID don’t think of those poor people that are currently suffering, indirectly caused by COVID, all people see is the number of people who have/are catching or passing away from COVID rather than all the other issues this has caused. Open your eyes.

Oh, but we do, we fear for everyone that has a condition that means they are likely to be ignored and be part of the survival of the fittest experiment..

Please don't blame those that fall into the very vulnerable category for decisions that are made by government and others!

His post is hardly doing that he’s pointing out that this world is more than just about COVID and he’s not saying that he doesn’t care about other people

So a very simple message:

- Don't gather indoors with more than 6 people
- Wear a face mask
- Keep your distance.

Basic common sense.

Couldn't be easier could it? Still bet half the population don't manage it.

Senior people in government expect these new measures to be in place for at least the next 3 months.

Relevant to watching footie from the Amex..a clip from the bbc website

Opening hours of premises in some local areas will be limited, says Johnson, although he does not say where.

And he says the government will revise plans to pilot larger audiences and review stadium plans.

"These measures are not another national lockdown," he adds. "The whole point of them is to avoid a second national lockdown."

Johnson also makes a plea to students going back to university to follow the rules to keep others safe.

These are the Prime Ministers in my lifetime that would have handled it better

Theresa May
David Cameron
Gordon Brown
Tony Blair
John Major
Margaret Thatcher
James Callaghan
Edward Heath
Harold Wilson
Alec Douglas-Home
Harold Macmillan

Which cannot be stated as fact, since none of them ever faced a global pandemic as devastating as Covid-19. It is merely an opinion (which tbf, many will agree with, especially on NSC), based on your view of Boris Johnson, which is well known all over the Bear pit.
If you were born in the Supermac era, you'll be too young to remember the car crash that was Sir Dalek Houglas-Doom, and probably weren't too aware of the chronic ineptitude of Heath, either. neither of whom would I have wanted in charge in the face of Covid-19 thank you very much. Wouldn't have had any faith in Callaghan or Major either.

The whole response should be based on common sense.

The problem is that the advice is so muddled and inconsistent, its getting in the way.

Agree.

Callaghan: "Crisis? What crisis?"
