Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

Thank you for accepting that the Nazis did murder straight away.

It goes back to 19th century. A couple of German faux academics wrote much loved books on how Jews were the enemy of Germany. So the seeds were sown for the Nazis to later state that as fact, blaming them for the WW1 defeat. Then Germany was chaos from 1920 to 1933, allowing right wing (SS, SA) and left wing thugs to hone their skills at political murders and beatings over 13 years. By January 1933 the Nazi machine had a vast army of organised thugs/murderers ready and waiting.
sorry, bit slow on the uptake, just to recap,

words first, then violence,

is that correct?

Surely you understand the BBCs impartiality foundation? Lineker has been warned many times. He’s actually helping the demise of the BBC, giving the same politicians that want to abolish it the very ammunition they need. Not exactly clever. Biting the hand that feeds too. He doesn’t need to get embroiled in. We don’t need his opinion on everything. As for it not being MOTD account, it doesn’t work like that as you know. If you or I did something online that brought our employer into disrepute regardless of it being out of hours or personal account we can similarly face action from. Nah, Lineker is supposed to be intelligent. He’s ducked up. Flown far too close to the sun repeatedly. The only surprise is how long this inevitability has taken really. I’m disappointed in him more than anything, he’s played into their hands. Had he given it a few more months we’d be able to vote these knobheads out. It was a hill not worth dying on. Pick yer battles they say.
what is the point of the right to free speech if you won't exercise it?

Once again Gary Lineker never mentioned the Nazis.

Everyone who is criticising him mentions the Nazis, to try and make their own argument stronger.
Facts matter.
I made that point too, I said “had he said the word Nazis he would have been sacked for gross misconduct” No contest. He didn’t, but he most definitely meant the Nazis by saying “1930s Germany” so I think it’s fine to call it for what he’s actually referring to. Not to make any argument stronger. Just to tell the truth, something the Nazis didn’t like either so I’m not going there myself too. Anyone, including Lineker, claiming they meant 1930s Germany before January 1933 is being disingenuous. That won’t wash, I’m afraid. Bit like Superior orders. Which is apt really. :)

He’s human. He’s f***ed up. He’s allowed to. He’s also allowed to retract and/or apologise. However we don’t live in an age where anyone does so die on his hill of choosing he must. Least he’s got Wrighty for company. Celebrity ego’s eh?

Gary is not the sharpest tool in the box is he.
On the contrary.

He knew exactly what he was doing. With a single tweet, he has brought a dubious government policy onto the front page, highlighted the government's cancel culture,
and has shone a light on a deeply insidious cabal within the Conservative party, to a popular football audience. If MOTD goes ahead tomorrow, the viewing figures will be through the roof.

Do you still believe he is not the sharpest tool in the box?

so you accept that language is important to, "so seeds".

so words first, then violence, is that correct?
I’ve posted twice that Braverman’s rhetoric was also the worst thing. I also said that the ramping up of language by both sides leads to a polarisation of views.

I hope I’m right, I really don’t see Albanians or Romanians being beaten up and murdered over this. We’re a fair country (the people, courts, charities, systems to help UK entrants), to me that outweighs the malicious intent by a few knuckle-draggers.

The Germany so seeds was a mass, organised campaign by huge political parties and right wing Prussian power brokers to hate others. Have a look at their evil posters, portraying ethnic groups as subhuman. We’ll have to agree to disagree, I think 1930’s Germany did not look remotely like 2023 UK. Italy, Germany and Sweden have hugely accelerated their deportations of all Albanians and others, often in a very swift manner. Are we saying that they’re also acting like 1930’s Germany?

That’s got to be a very big ‘’if’’

I have no idea why we are now down playing what the Nazis did.

A stupid policy (that I don't agree with) is now equal to killing 6 million Jews
The argument is that Sunak/Braverman have well and truly started the slippery slope to that.

I think that’s nonsense.
