Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

how did the national socialists incite the necessary hatred in the poplace?
Thank you for accepting that the Nazis did murder straight away.

It goes back to 19th century. A couple of German faux academics wrote much loved books on how Jews were the enemy of Germany. So the seeds were sown for the Nazis to later state that as fact, blaming them for the WW1 defeat. Then Germany was chaos from 1920 to 1933, allowing right wing (SS, SA) and left wing thugs to hone their skills at political murders and beatings over 13 years. By January 1933 the Nazi machine had a vast army of organised thugs/murderers ready and waiting.

Exactly. It was his personal Twitter account, not MOTD Twitter account.
He hasn’t said anything on his programme even when politicians were criticising the England team for taking the knee.
Surely you understand the BBCs impartiality foundation? Lineker has been warned many times. He’s actually helping the demise of the BBC, giving the same politicians that want to abolish it the very ammunition they need. Not exactly clever. Biting the hand that feeds too. He doesn’t need to get embroiled in. We don’t need his opinion on everything. As for it not being MOTD account, it doesn’t work like that as you know. If you or I did something online that brought our employer into disrepute regardless of it being out of hours or personal account we can similarly face action from. Nah, Lineker is supposed to be intelligent. He’s ducked up. Flown far too close to the sun repeatedly. The only surprise is how long this inevitability has taken really. I’m disappointed in him more than anything, he’s played into their hands. Had he given it a few more months we’d be able to vote these knobheads out. It was a hill not worth dying on. Pick yer battles they say.

We’ll see. Other presenters have made political statements and not been suspended.
Unless you can quote the exact term or condition in Lineker’s contract, you know as much as the rest of us.

Btw, what are your views on Richard Sharp or Robbie Gibb?

She’s already said Nah! I posted her tweet four or five pages ago.
I do apologise, it's a fast moving thing. The Daily Express website earlier had her down as being an alternative host to that nasty, left wing, woke, remoaner, anti growth coalition loving Lineker.

so you accept that language is important to, "so seeds".

so words first, then violence, is that correct?

He said it independently on Twitter, it's his content, or possibly Twitter's, it's certainly not the BBC's.

I guess his contact could,in theory, have something in it effectively staying all his published content on 3rd party platforms should adhere to the BBC guidelines, if so, case closed. However, we haven't heard that.

It's really very simple, is he bound by the BBC guidelines at all times, even when not producing content for the BBC, or not.

Peston suggests there's nothing in Lineker's contract, in this thread (not first post).

(Important to remember that Lineker is freelance, not an employee.)

This is where it starts in the 30’s.

The language would have been very similar to ‘stop the boats’ at this time.

It’s a slippery slope. After 10 years+ of that language, the country was very different.
