There will always be winning runs on football. But as Weststander said, you can't win long-term on it. Maybe the best chance is following lower league football. Notts County to win the National League is a good bet. They've won their last three in an open division where no team has convinced. I think they're around 9/1 now in sixth place and with the size of their squad and getting used to tiny away grounds, they'll snatch the title from a minnow like Barrow or Solihull Moors.

First goalscorer betting has been ruined by VAR. But I did Manchester City to beat Chelsea 3-1 a couple of months ago. Raheem Sterling wrapped it up in stoppage time but it went to VAR and they disallowed it with the last kick of the match for a fraction of offside! I told myself never to wager ever again on the PL.

I used to bet nearly every day but it's something I don't miss at all. Spend the money on people you really care about! It saves a lot of your time as well.

If you’d have put a ton on Liverpool to win every league game this season you’d be raking it in. Given their incredible record and the poor standard of opposition and the fact they had an extra days rest today was a no brainier.

I agree. Leicester too, since Rodgers joined.

But hindsight’s a wonderful thing. Which neutral would’ve thought that Liverpool and Leicester would relentlessly win match after match? That’s normally the preserve of buy-trophies; Celtic, ManC, PSG, Juve and Bayern.

I didn't mean to stop betting to spend on your family individually. I meant everyone in general. With bookies closing, maybe they'll offer more generous in-shop odds. Ha!

Digressing, did you do well on Liverpool to win match bets this season? I recall chatting about it, where I'd been deterred by the miserly odds, but your (in hindsight) correct point was that it happened with unnerving regularity.

My betting successes were on European (CL and EC) matches, FAC and LC, including some 'printing money' moments eg where Potter decided to play kids against a Villa team with a huge number of first team appearances under their belts.

I've kept a watching brief mainly so far on the PL return but the trend does seem to be on 'under' goals in the handicap markeys, particularly first half. So far from 14 games 12 have produced under 1.5 first half goals, generally odds on this are around 1/3 so £10 stakes on each of these would give you approx £20 profit from £140 stake. Also slightly more risky but 9 of the 14 games (and 9 from 12 excluding Man City) have had under 0.5 half time goals, this generally a 6/4 chance so for £10 stakes you would have an £85 profit on all games since restart. No doubt it will all start going awry now I start gambling on it!

I’ve had three bets so far, genuinely all wins, I like mainly doing lay bets (risky, you can lose badly), winning £70 on:

ManC scoring 3 or more vs Burnley.
Brighton not winning at Leicester.
West Ham not winning at Spurs.

I spent three days in Vegas in early May, staying in a hotel on the strip. What was most amazing was how every shop turned into a casino - even a Walgreens! You walked to the back of the store and boom, casino. It was bonkers beyond description. As a reformed gambler, I had no problems at all in ignoring the temptation and instead getting pleasantly drunk in the bars and watching all the sports on the huge bank of screens on one wall. It was a paradise of sporting entertainment and the serving ladies very quickly left my friend and I alone, knowing we weren't going to be splurging.

To echo what others have said, the psychology of the place is amazing. Constant music from the gaming machines, no sense of time or reality, oxygen constantly being pumped in and loads of winning jingles being played all the time from the various one arm bandits around. So easy to get trapped, but of my group of 4, only one of us pumped $10 in a machine and walked away with a pay out slip of $0.79, which she kept for the memory. We then had to stop her pumping in another $10, because that's how the problems begin!

Final thought on the casinos in Vegas, what few people spot is the CCTV cameras overhead. I pointed them out to my group as we walked in and they couldn't believe it, every inch of the ceiling was covered by them. There is nothing they're not seeing the whole time you are there.

What is the point of Vegas if you are not gambling? You can see a ‘show’ in a thousand places around the world, you can watch sport on TV in millions of places. I don’t get Vegas, and I will very occasionally have a little flutter.
