I don’t really bet these days but as I walk in York was on the box, out of the blue a memory returned to me of a bet I had 25 years ago!

I had the first 3 winners on a 50p Yankee and the last selection was at Longchamp (it was Arc weekend) Thierry Jarnet (sp?) was the jockey and he had the bastard thing won, however for some reason at the time Longchamp had TWO winning posts within about ten yards of each other depending on the race distance, anyhoo he dropped his hands at the wrong one and subsequently got pipped at the 2nd (correct) one.
Cost me about £600.

Any tales of woe? 96th minute equalisers that done you out of a 12 team acca? Fallers at the last? Wheels falling off the old chariots they used to show in the bookies in the late 80s?

It’s all gold!

Every Gambler has a countless hard luck stories, they are not the interesting ones to be honest the winners are the ones we remember.
Like a certain Glenn Murray to score first and 3-1 away win at Southampton double at £10.00 very special to me.
Or a £2.50 e/w lucky 15 I did the day we lost 4-0 away at Northampton, I had three of the through the card Frankie did that day, softened the blow on the drive back after the game.

I worked in the bookies Dettori day and one of my old boys laid out £60 on a 50p Heinz (I don’t know if this counts as a hard luck story on his behalf) but despite putting the bet on shortly after opening time he never took any early prices, leaving it all to SP, he won 59 grand! (Handy enough)

On the Monday, in one of the rags they printed a story of some bloke up north who had the identical bet, but with early prices taken and won in excess of £300k

I knew this small geezer once, liked his cards, fancied himself as a poker player. Any way after winning a few pennies at poker thought he was a real big shot and decided to invest a shitty second division team down south, as if! Anyone knows about football knows all the big teams are top north.
Any road, he started gambling on buying shit Dutch DJ type footballers thinking that would get his shit team up the league, and when that didn't work he hoovered up South American no-marks that nobody had ever heard of. Anybody that knows football, knows you have to spend millions on a 40 goal a season striker.

Thats the last I heard of him, so god knows what he's up to nowadays, probably on his uppers somewhere down south.

I did a £10 combination trifecta on the tote (cost £60) and my old mans horse at a race at Wolverhampton, had I done the same bet at the bookies (tricast) I’d have won £18,514.20 instead of the eighty quid I ended up with. That was a bit of a sore one.

Here‘s the race card

Was given it from a 'reliable' source, and had a decent investment.
When the race was abandoned due to the bomb scare I got my money back from the bookies as was heading out for a big night out involving a posh dinner. No idea when it was to be rearranged for, if at all.

Anyway, bottom line I forgot to place it again for the Monday when it romped home by 25 lengths at 14s.

A bet missed. Last January when the PL team's were announced at the Amex, I predicted to those with me a 3-0 win over Liverpool. I went onto the Betfair and SkyBet apps and both were blocked .... that's something about the Amex .... do the PL or Albion block betting websites on a matchday? I bet rarely and a bit higher than some, I would've had a £50 or £75 stake on that. Frustrated at the time.

I was in the casino one afternoon playing roulette six numbers kept doing me during the session to the point of annoying. I was only playing £1 chips so not really a big deal. Anyways after losing a few quid I’m walking up the road and pass a newsagents and I’m thinking I should put all those numbers that have killed me all afternoon on the lottery. There were no pens at the lottery stand and a bit of a queue at the till so I left it and walked out thinking probably won’t win anyway.
All six numbers came in that evening.

About 10 minutes ago I had £1 EW on a horse called Live in the dream @40s with bet365 20 seconds before the off,it won so I'm alright jack but the horses sp was 28-1,now call me suspicious but that's a genuine 12 point shift in 20 seconds or it's fundamentally wrong and the big bookies literally adjust the odds to suit,it would have taken some really big bets to shift the price down that much the thieving gits, add to that the bookies had it off because the heavily backed favourite got beat, has to be crooked.

Went off at 44 on Betfair Exchange. I only bet at Betfair SP on there and have noticed that the odds sometimes shift quite heavily at the off (up or down) which I guess depends upon how much money is placed on the SP on the exchange. As bookies seem to get their prices from exchanges these days, that may be partially why the price changes dramatically. Isn't the SP determined independently of individual bookmakers?

I don't bet often but one I put on last season made me a bit grumbly and made me hate Leeds a little bit more.

8 game accumulator, £5 bet, something like £4.5k winnings. At around 70minutes the only game that wasn't going my way was Leeds vs SomeoneOrOther and the app was offering me £65 cash out. Which I took. £60 profit isn't to be sniffed at.

Checked again just after the final whistle to validate my choice to cash out and Leeds had scored late on which would have brought in the whole £4.5k

I had a bit of a moment where I wanted to raise an army to march on Leeds city centre and then decided to take my £60 a get a nice Indian takeaway for myself and my girlfriend instead.

The first ever lottery draw I bought 2 tickets.
I had 3 numbers on one ticket and the other 3 on the other ticket.
Never done the lottery since

Had a £5 on the side game. Was delighted to win £80 until the dealer turned over his other card. Other way round would have been £20k

I’ve always managed to get a bet builder placed on PaddyPower using the stadium WiFi, although a mate I go with can never get onto SkyBet.
