Just a reminder for those saying “yeah but we are 5th” it’s a false position as by not taking our chances and building a buffer, we could be 11th come 2pm Sunday.

*N.B this is purely on a quick look at teams 3 points below us, I’ve excluded Newcastle and Brentford both winning for obvious reasons

Yeah I was thinking that there is a fair number of teams within 3 points of us now. We need to improve a bit or we are going to fall down the league quite a bit.

Maybe but drawing 2-2 with Wolves after being 2-0 up on 89 minutes, failing to beat a dog shit Southampton side when 1-0 up with 30 minutes left and not beating Forst when a goal up with 15 minutes DOES suggest we have a weak mentality.

It's easier to chase a game and be brave V big opposition (Spursy and an exhausted City team it also must be said) is easier than digging in versus more dogged opposition fighting for a point.

We are weak, fragile, comfortable and complacent. We will never 'challenge the establishment' with our current mentality. We aren't strong enough.
Add on 0-0 Ipswich game.

Not another on another day merchant we win. Today was the match day and we didn’t win.
All this dreaming is doing my head in.
Who’s dreaming? I was pointing out the capricious nature of sport. If it’s doing your head in, get off NSC and sit in a darkened room.

Having slept on it it's best to get back to some optimism and I'm prepared to say poor conditions, some failed experimental stuff, silly error early on that knocked the early rhythm we started with and lots to learn. I think we can bounce back but do need the realism as others have pointed out regarding fragility of our present league position. For now, I'll just keep replaying Baleba's goal.

From the Putney End.... We looked very disjointed. Wingers who didn't use the wing or cross. A forward line which didn't know where the opposition goal was. A 2 man midfield sadly lacking the energy that Ayari brings. A back 4 that did little, clearly in a messwith 3 centre backs. All not helped by giving away a goal in first 2 mins. We play slow football. A bad day at the office maybe but something was off tonight. Let's see what Leicester brings.
You called it right, in my opinion.

JPVH looked lost in that game, and our wingers (Adingra, Gruda, Minteh) toothless...only Mitoma had moments of good wing play IMO.

How did Wolves win 4-1 at Craven Cottage? The beauty of the PL

One plus point about last night, can you imagine the meltdown on here if Steele had been in goal and played like Bart last night? The second game in a week where he’s hardly made a save.

How is it a false position? We have more points that 15 other teams having played the same number of games - and have played all the top teams as well.

A false position is when a team finds itself in an early-season lofty position after a relatively easy run of opening fixtures.

It’s not a false position. We are fifth on merit.
Yes, we could fall down the table but that’s always the case in what is a tight division.
That said anyone who says “we are fifth therefore we are beyond criticism“ is wrong. There were some fundamental problems last night and Southampton . unbalanced, caught by the high press and tame where it matters.

They only had two shots on target in the whole game.

A question us Fulham fans have been asking ourselves.

The answer is that we scored first, got a bit complacent (like last night), Wolves scored a wonder goal against the run of play and then Silva's first set of substitutions unbalanced the team. Wolves scored another wonder goal, Silva's second set of subs unbalanced the team more and used the max number, our CB got injured so we're down to 10 men and we let 2 very late goals in.

Silva learnt from that. We could have been a lot stronger against you last night, but we were effectively playing our rotational squad (like you I think), as we've got Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelscum up next.

In my very much non-expert opinion, we gifted them the first and third goals by faffing about in the corners and passing the ball out to our defenders who on both occasions had 2x markers on them, when on both occasions we could have cleared it upfield (I appreciate that we like to play out from the back, but certainly for the third goal it seems to me that getting the ball upfield may have created more options).

The second goal was a lesson in corner taking that we could learn from perhaps?

All in all a night to forget. Onwards!
