Why didn't they use one of the previous shootings to start to loot etc. ?

They must've wanted a new pair of Nikes for a while, why wait?

It is easier to loot in a crowd whilst the authorities are struggling to contain disorder.

Perfect excuse to behavour like a see you next Tuesday and blame one police officer, hundreds of miles away for their idiotic actions.

It's not one police officer, is it? The fact this incident was filmed made it a tipping point but it's just one of many deaths at the hands of the French police. Together with the other societal issues they have, it's little wonder we're witnessing these scenes.

What other societal issues?

Illegal activities by police will be dealt with.

So the usual suspects aren't using the shooting, they're using the the substantial disorder that is occupying the police.

I do think some people are focussing too much on the looting trees rather than the much wider wooded disorder.

Unfortunately, many of the people of France (not just the rioters) don't share your confidence illegal police activities will be dealt with.

They have one of the worst records in the entirety of Europe for brutality without judicial review or oversight which is quite something given the reputation of some Eastern European police. There's a large number of civil cases brought against them every year to try and get some kind of justice. Their role is quasi-military, to protect and serve the Republic and state (not it's people) and the concept of "community policing" is almost non-existent. The UN HCR among many other external bodies says the French police are excessive in their use of force...

If there's any good to come of this case now it's that some are saying it could be a turning point, finally.

Is this how society has been brainwashed? A young man someone’s son has been executed by a policeman in cold blood for what being nothing more than a 17 yr old tear away and the most anger is directed towards a Nike store being looted by rioters. It’s also being implied these are all poor people who shouldn’t have or want a flat screen TV can’t afford a pair of crappy Nike trainers and should calmly take police brutality on the chin.
History has dictated oppression has a tipping point why can very few see this?

Hugely distressing scenes, vandalising a Jewish memorial in protest of a completely unrelated matter. I am sure everyone will agree that such hideous racism has no place in civilised society.
Whilst I agree who sparked these scenes? Police announcing themselves judge, juror and executioner on the streets of France also has no place in a civilised society.

The guy is attempting to set the French flag on fire, in front of a defaced holocaust memorial.

What the f***.

This will only do massive harm to their cause in France.
Bizzare scenes, people have clearly lost the plot.

Is the focus on the looting of Nike stores a bit too sharp on the tress you like and not the wider wood?
It's the old story. The police do something bad, people react badly and this is then used to justify the original bad thing done by the police.

If only people could refrain from reacting badly to police brutality then the police would stop their brutality. Overnight.

Oh, hang on. No, they wouldn't.

Still this does not justify rioting, and so, er, rioting is very bad. Very bad indeed. This is a very important lesson and I thank the OP for posting this important thread.

Rioting, looting, defacing Holocaust memorials in racially motivated attacks… all very bad.

To add, the murder does not justify the looting.

And the looting does not justify the murder.

Great effort will be made to stop the looting.

Very little will be done about the murder. (Edit, a policeman has been charged. Hard to not in this case as he was filmed I now learn).

That's the way they seem to like it in France. For reasons explained by others.

The policeman has been arrested and charged with murder, I’m not sure what more can be done other than let their criminal justice system play out the case in court.

One week of riots 12 years ago, I think the point rather stands that it's not as though things have materially improved for most people over those years but not a hint of a riot since which in most countries (certainly France) would be unheard of.

So the working class are technically to blame for not rioting ?

Has he? That's good news.

Do you happen to know what happened in the previous 14 odd similar cases reported in this thread?
