And luckily for you there are people fighting to keep your children's world free of radioactive water, as you seem to be too blinkered by what the oil companies (the ones who will make a shitload of cash) are actually doing.

This article from the NY Times will show you a very reputable source of water contamination due to fracking:

If you choose to believe what the profiteers choose to tell you fine, but don't dismiss others that question what they are up to. To me the whole thing is so totally idiotic and the ultimate in short term thinking that I can imagine.

:lolol: I love you nutters.

Good start. Will somebody think of the children! But I am. The alternative is a few people having to drink Evian for a while during a scientific experiment that may stop my kids having to pay a similarly evil company thousands of pounds to turn their lights and heating on.

See this is my point. All that shows is that you are good at reading articles you agree with (that are two years old). That article is contradicted by the link I already posted. That proves I'm good at Googling. To settle the argument some actual fracking is going to have to go on in the UK and be properly scientifically evaluated. Think of it as a moon landing or making a p.c.

I don't. Read my original post properly. My point is that all the time it is profiteers versus protesters you won't get a proper clear resolution to this element of energy policy.

If you look at the NY times map I just posted it shows a direct correlation of unsafe levels of radium and uranium and the proximity to fracking wells.

i appricate the effort. as expected it shows that a few selected data points can show in a few examples a problem might be present. as pointed out, this region is known for those metals, like many areas of the UK. why does that make all fracking bad? why not state the fact that the levels are up at some sites? would this have any bearing on Balcombe? probably not.

and on those levels, do they mean anything to you? i've looked it up and the safe level is considered 5 picoCuries. 1500x would be 7500 picoCuries. for perspective, a ton of bananas (known for their radioactivity) measures 3520 picoCuries. so the worse case is the equivilent of a couple of tons of bananas dumped in the water. incidently, radiation measures are a pig, but i've found that eating one banana a day per year is about 50% more exposure (measured in μSieverts) than is considered the safe for annual expose in the nuclear industry. thats a very long way of say check the actual background to your stuff as it might not mean anything like what you think it does. short version, dont always belief the FUD.

We shouldn't be putting ANY chemicals into the ground - full stop !

i've spent too long looking at curies and sieverts to look more, but i'm pretty sure they pump similar fluid into to regular wells some times not to fracture but push out/replace the good stuff.

Re: fracking in sussex....

Wow, very long, in depth arguments from both sides.

Doesn't change the fact that Lucas is using this protest as a means to increase her popularity among the young, student types in her constituency. She knows that the long term residents of Brighton and Hove are fed up to the back teeth with her and her party. Her being arrested along with her son serves no useful purpose to the genuine protesters, but it makes her hip, active and edgy amongst the left wing ideological temporary residents that her constituency is full of.

Cynical woman hiding her own publicity seeking self promotion beneath a cloak of fashionable protest.

As a Balcombe Man and boy, I love my village. Its in my bones and blood. But fact marina pepper has turned up as part of the anti crowd means I'm prepared to see the place levelled by agent orange just to piss her off for all the anti Amex bollocks she spouted trying to kill my club. So of you're reading marina, put your saggy page 3s away and DO ONE!

Ps scores of villagers never been surveyed including my folks and yet still the Eco warriors continue to quote in their name. It's simply not true and locals are sick and tired of the righteous unwashed Druid types who have descended into their peaceful lives and now causing major disruption to the community. And it's the only decent place to overtake on the cuckfield road - you can't do that now. SWAMPIES OUT!

Ah, the same Marina Pepper who said the incinerator at Newhaven would only be built over her "woad-painted dead body".

I sometimes wonder if all those that look at the demonstrators and shudder took an opposing view and actually went on the demonstrate, what then? Civil mayhem?

I think it's is a necessary evil. It's not risk free and nobody can really say what will happen. Humans are flawed, we've had oil spill ages but that hasn't stopped production. We need energy, we all use loads of it. All the time. I'm using some discussing with you whereas 20 years ago I didn't have the Internet to use or a mobile to constantly charge. I think it's highly hypocritical of anyone to say stop the fracking. But I want energy. And there are more people arriving on this crowded planet every day. Many of these protesters would be better off contributing to the green agenda by implementing birth control. In some ways, I wish their parents had! Damned nuisance now, the usual stereotypes have hijacked proceedings and its all becoming very unsavoury. many just want the protesters to go now. Nothing to do with our village in the main. Where were they in the 80s? Or even a couple of years ago. Still remember the village hall meeting for residents being crowded and shouted out by loads of Brighton types arriving out of the blue. Really annoyed a lot of residents. They felt marginalised and yet they'd called the meeting to find out some facts. The arrogance of the anti capitalists is breathtaking at times. And very ironic.

Yes well done for turning up at a socialist environmental protest organised by smart phone and social media. She can cycle up there wearing a sandwich board before she gets my respect.

Are socialists not allowed to use smart phones and social media?

I think you have them confused with the Amish
