Looked like a shove to me, he had both hands on Websters back. Shoulder-barges are one thing, but he basically manhandled Webster out of the way. Zero surprise he was given the benefit though.

Of greater concern for me, was WTF was Sanchez doing ?? Off his line, outside the box, nowhere near intercepting anything. Its yet another FFS moment from our keeper to add to the growing collection.

There is nothing wrong with a fair shoulder charge. At least that was what I was brought up to believe. What I object to is where one player uses both hands to push his opponent whether it be in the front or from behind and present day referees seem to think its fair game. I can't help but remember Tarkowski's push on Maupay which led to Burnley scoring and our esteemed Geordie friend Sheareer thought "that's how you do it"
Ever thought that maybe the rules of the game might have deviated in the last 50 years from ‘what you were brought up to believe’ :lolol:

So someone has to be built like giant to defend against Haaland otherwise they are light weight.A fair shoulder to shoulder is next to each other while running, can you imagine Lamptey getting that treatment from him.It was a foul imo.Mind I would have an issue with Sanchez quarter way up the pitch.
Yes? It’s a contact sport…

The referee would have brought a lot of pressure on himself to have given a foul there seeing as it would have disallowed the goal. A real 50/50 decision I think. We brought it on ourselves with none of Dunk/Webster/Sanchez coming out of it with credit. We got what we deserved.

No foul. Its a contact sport.

Haaland was just stronger.

Find it hard to blame Webster. Don't think there's more than two or three PL CBs that could challenge Haaland in such a situation.
I don't think there's any, when Haalands touch took the ball beyond Webster, his momentum and and direction gave him no chance. I don't think any Brighton player made even a whimper of a claim for a foul, rightly.

If it had been a shoulder barge it would have been fine, he shoved him out of the way using his hand. There was no need to, his body/shoulder would suffice. Grabbing and pulling is a foul, not deemed fair in this contact sport. Shoving is the same. Getting your body in the way isn't a foul.

Point of contact.

We need to see less of these given as fouls so I'm fine with it. Haaland has nowhere else to go as Webster is coming across him.
If it stayed like that, shoulder to shoulder I’d agree with you, BUT Harlaand extends that right arm to push Webster over - that’s the foul.

Watching the highlights on MOTD I see Webster sliding across the floor, arms stretched out in front of him, admiring Haaland. If Webster had been doubled up in agony, as any top 6 defender would have been, he'd have a decent chance of getting the free kick.

You can call it honest, but in today's game is strikes me as basically unprofessional.

I get your point but unfortunately, these kind of things will continue to be given when it’s in favour of a bigger side

That Arsenal/Leeds one the other day was very similar and they ruled the goal out as the contact, if small, made the defender off balance.

Foul last 10 years - yes
Foul this season - never know
Foul by Man City player according to ref and VAR - no
Foul by BHA player according to ref and VAR if it was other way round - 85% yes - ref would’ve been sprinting to the monitor

They don’t need the help yet still VAR etc give it to them all against ‘smaller’ teams with less money.
They could just program the teams colours into the VAR computer and speed up the decision making

Should you not be supporting a different team if you want players to cheat? Forest maybe? :lolol:

I have hated professional fouls since the defeat by Notts County at Wembley under Warnock.

Hate it when our players cheat, absolutely nothing professional about it

We were playing at City, there is no way Webster would have got that obvious foul given even if he’d jumped up screaming and holding a part of his anatomy and then fallen down again in simulated agony.

But it wouldn't have been a dive, he was knocked flying. It would have just been highlighting how much contact there was.

Not sure he could have gone down harder, he was swatted aside by a beast

What would you have liked him to have done?
