1904 until 1970 were blue and white according to the Brighton Bible.

I think this is disputed, but I cannot remember where I read that.

No, we didn't have this one. TOFFS aren't always very accurate

Going back through the team photos in Tim Carder's book, there doesn't appear to be any shirt of that design.

I know the pictures are mono, but even then, the red and blue would appears as a two-tone, double-width grey. And there are no images of that.

Doesn't follow that we didn't wear that shirt, of course, but there doesn't seems to be any photographic evidence.

Hmmm yes agreed. I don't recognise this shirt at all. In fact there is only one team who come to mind who combine red and blue together ...

Ha! Traditionally they were Claret and Blue...

Thanks guys. I did think it was odd. I like the shirt for novelty value at least.

The problem comes from a misrepresentation of Albion kits in the book 'Club Colours' by Bob Bickerton, which created or perpetuated a myth that we had red, blue and white stripes in the 1920s:

Because it was the only book about kits in history at the time, many took the information straight from there.

You can read more about this book at:

Yes, although I'm not sure who made the original error. It's similar to the myth that Brighton's nickname was 'The Shrimps' when it never was. Kept on cropping up in profiles of the club for decades.
