seems alot of bedwetters who think we must do "something" to address the standard of the England international team. in decades gone past, German, France and Spain have taken concerted a few weeks ago Dyke put forward some proposals, not directly related, to restructure their football around a vision of improving their national game. we haven't. a few weeks ago Dyke came up with some suggestions, we largely dismissed them but they with an eye on what the Germans, French and Spain do.

so the question is: do you want the FA to follow through, take more control of league football to this end?

put aside issues of Sky, premiership etc, that might be worked with or around. in *principle* would you accept a restructure of the Leauges to improve the England side of the future?

And the dominance of the PL. English players are an ever diminishing pool to select from as £m lures good overseas players in.
The shear competitiveness of the PL right to the bitter end of the season, in every game, leaves players knackered come June - 5live had a great point, that many of the overseas players in the PL do some coasting or miss games on modest injuries every other season run-in, so that they are fresher for the country in the Summer tournament - they gave good examples of Van Persie and others who are now thriving in this WC. Apparently a couple of PL managers even joked frankly about it during this last PL season run-in.

The reason England are shit is there is a poor crop of players from this generation. We haven't had decent central defenders since Terry Butcher and Stuart Pearce.

The Idea that we are crap because we have the best and most competative premeir league defies all logic.

The proposals are all about consolidating the power of the biggest clubs but are being pushed through under the guise of helping the national team. Don't fall for the deception.

Bedwetters is such a ridiculous term, along with the PC Brigade and what-have-you.

Especially in this context. If being thoroughly fed up with the constant failure of the national team with no visable signs of improvement makes me a bed wetter, then yes, nocturnal incontinence is a problem I have.

Sorry but did you read this before you posted? I have read it a few times and it doesn't read easily.

Apologies if you are not English.

oh, yes, bugger i seem to have cocked up a copy/pasting.

short version, do we accept the idea that the FA takes over football at all levels, and implements the recommendations of Dyke's report, even if that means sacrificing some of the league teams for the sake of the national.

his recommendations are based on models in other countries that have "solved" the issue, so do we follow that remedy.

or, put another way, do we put country before clubs?

im not advocating, i dont agree with his recommendations. really just highlighting what the cost might be to "do something" about the national team. though i do think we should seriously consider how we can cut at least one of Premier Leauge, Football Leauge or Football Association out, we'll never even achive a direction with three interested groups pulling their own way.

Stop trying to make the national team in to a "club" of regular players

Pick a team on each players merits and not because their club are winning things

Stop playing worthless friendlies against opposition teams to raise money and giving caps to players for playing 10 minutes
Go back to picking the best players in the country irrespective of their age and let young players learn from experienced players rather than building them up to think they better than they are.

Foster a way of thought that makes people want to play for England and continue to get better rather than expecting them to be the best before they have even pulled the shirt on.

You deal in very broad generalities and clichés without getting specific. But how exactly are Dyke's recommendations going to help the national team?

What do you mean by "lower divisions"? Pretty sure Chile players come from their top flight.

I'll give you a second chance to put that in English.

The seaside.
International football is pointless. Why risk your players getting injured in matches that even at finals level are nothing more than glorified friendlies. Does a nation have to submit a team for the WC and its federational cup? If not, don't. If so, why not treat it as a chance to experiment and field a different squad for every set of games... eg an under 25 squad, an over 25 squad, a non-PL squad, a surnames A-M then N-Z squad. Have a bit of fun with it. All the fun has been sucked out of football. International competition, where the results don't matter, is the place to reinject some. IMHO.

I mean not from the top clubs in the top leagues - most of this squad play abroad but at eg Cardiff atlas , Zagreb fiorentina etc not like from 5-6 clubs like here - Roy only wanted players from as few clubs as he could be bothered to see
