Yep he killed his family and topped himself by all accounts.

reading on another board that seems the most likely of outcomes - locked into the house by all accounts over a three day period

The sad bit is that I actually checked the other news sources before believing it. WWE has been so far up it's own arse with crap story lines that you never know what's true and what's not.

Murder/suicide is suspected, his wife and 7 year old child are also dead, and the first thing you have to do is check to see if it's not a story line dreamt up to boost the ratings...

agreed - unfortunately it has got to that stage now. back in the day vince mcmahon said he would never do storylines on "rape or murder". he has since done both

everybody knows wrestling is fake - doesn't take away from the fact it is entertaining to see blokes getting hit round the head with chairs and diving off of ladders and stuff

Just been reported on Fox News that Chris Benoit strangled wife, smothered son, 7, before hanging himself in weight room; possible 'roid rage' probed as a factor.

Even sadder for his wife and innocent child :(

Agreed.

I read one report which quoted a police spokesman as saying that when the full details of the case become public knowledge (probably sometime tomorrow once some tests have been carried out on the bodies), people will find them to be 'bizarre', so god only knows what that implies.

In one case (Katie Vick), both at the same time as well, with the 'rape' part supposedly coming both before and after the 'murder' part.

You have to wonder what kind of mind it takes to come up with that, much less to be convinced people will be entertained by it.

Even sadder is that the press (well, Fox and their acolytes) are hanging onto the "bizarre" element of the story. No doubt they are wanking themselves silly over the prospect of something "deviant" arising from the press conference.

According to wwe.com, investigators believe that Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, then killed himself yesterday.

I never met the guy, but that just somehow doesn't seem right for him, he always came across in interviews and stuff, as well as live (see the ending of WMXX where he won the Title and celebrated in the ring with his wife and kid), as one of those real family blokes, and it always seemed to me to be genuine rather than just put on for the cameras.

He did give that impression...

I know soaps and plays etc are staged too, but they're not really trying to hide it.

That's the whole point of a soap/drama/play/film, isn't it? It's meant to be reality. Wouldn't work otherwise, would it?

Grown men pretending to be hurt just strikes me as a rather strange form of entertainment, but if it gets people going then fair enough.

Have you watched football recently

Truely terrible. Benoit was a living legend, I'll never forget Wrestlemania when he won his first World Heavyweight Title. I also knew Benoit, hadn't been in the kind of in the head lately, but I never knew he would be capable of this.

RIP Chris.
