Just because someone has died, admittedly
I know soaps and plays etc are staged too, but they're not really trying to hide it. Whatever I have seen of wrestling is just plain embarrassing. Grown men pretending to be hurt just strikes me as a rather strange form of entertainment, but if it gets people going then fair enough.

For over a decade now (mainly thanks to the internet I'd say) wrestling has openly admitted that it is entertainment (well, I guess that's a matter of opinion), not a sport. Any wrestlers autobiography will talk openly about their training and the pre-determined results.

Therefore your opinions are pretty ill informed, I would be more embarrased about that than I would the grown men who pretend to be hurt.

I haven't actually watched it in many years, but back in the day I saw a few live events and the atmosphere was superb. I'd compare it to the darts, which with the entrance music, players nicknames and crowd chanting has quite a few similarities... And one thing's for sure the wrestlers are much fitter! :lolol:

It is a shame that there are no wrestling fans, and that this thread doesn't sink into oblivion.
What a shower of shit.

i agree potter - a man and his family dying is a shower of shit isnt it. ill remember that when you are in the ground :tosser:

as for wrestling itself, wwe raw was probably the best night of entertainment i have seen since lords. it had atmosphere, passion and was a superb night out. far better than anything i have experienced watching the albion this season

According to wwe.com, investigators believe that Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, then killed himself yesterday.

I never met the guy, but that just somehow doesn't seem right for him, he always came across in interviews and stuff, as well as live (see the ending of WMXX where he won the Title and celebrated in the ring with his wife and kid), as one of those real family blokes, and it always seemed to me to be genuine rather than just put on for the cameras.

I think there's more to this one than meets the eye, but it's a sad day for wrestling nonetheless.

Wrestling Superstar Found Dead

Posted Jun 25th 2007 6:51PM by TMZ Staff
WWE superstar Chris Benoit, 40, his wife Nancy and young son were found dead in their Atlanta home early this afternoon, this according to WWE.com.

No further details regarding the tragedy have been released. Benoit was scheduled to appear at a pay-per-view event last night ... WWE said that there was a "family emergency" that prevented him from being there.

Benoit, a former World Heavyweight Champ, wreaked havoc with his signature move, the "Crippler Crossface."

The incident comes on the heels of the shocking death of former WWE wrestler "Sensational" Sherri Martel, and the supposed "assassination" of WWE head honcho Vince McMahon. TMZ has learned that the WWE is scrapping all references to the McMahon death storyline on tonight's episode of "Raw.'

According to the official WWE website, tonight's "Raw" will serve as a tribute to the wrestling great.

Police are investigating the incident.

UPDATE: ABC News is reporting that the deaths are being investigated as a possible suicide and double homicide.

I've read reports that the show started with Vince in the ring. Not sure what'll happen to his 'death' angle after this...

It did, which I'm hoping means they've dropped it as the tasteless drivel it is/was.

Do people still watch this?

If so why?!?

For the same reason people watch Corrie, EastEnders and the like, namely entertainment. WWF is just like a soap opera, with characters and storylines, and almost all those I know who watch it do so with that mindset.

But what I don't understand is the people that can't seem to realise that it's fake...

Exactly, WWE is just like the soaps that attract the biggest viewing figures in Britain. The difference being that the WWE has much better looking women.

Very Very sad about Benoit and his family. Dont want to pass judgement though until the full story is released.

Thankfully, those people who are convinced everything is exactly as it seems are a minority these days, although it must be said that while obviously the winners and losers of the match, not to mention all the storylines, are decided upon well in advance, the action in the matches themselves is generally ad-libbed to at least some extent between the wrestlers, depending on their experience level.

For some of the younger guys, WWF employs ex-wrestlers to help them lay out their matches in a way that makes sense, until they understand enough to manage on their own.

I think you also find that a lot of people, in dismissing it as fake, tend to overlook the altheticism required to do it properly, not to mention the injuries you can sustain by making even the smallest of mistakes.

Watchin the boats go by
If someone writes a title saying 'FAO Eastenders fans' I simply don't open it.

Why have the people who have made negative comments on the thread opened it, let alone bothered to post. Just f*** OFF!

Here and There
Well I like wrestling, I went to see 'Raw' at wembley arena last year and the atmosphere was great. I would say the majority of fans take it all tongue in cheek.

It's like a showcase of stuntmen and women. OK, the results are pre-determined but that doesn't take away from the fact you need real skill to pull off some of the moves that these wrestlers are able to execute.

It's funny that all those that seem to slag it off then go and wank over some pre-pubescent in Neighbours.

I see what you are saying Dan, but Ive followed it for years and the only people who I know who dont think its fake are little kids. You eventually reach that stage when you know its not real.
