Manchester uni/met had the best end of term nights. I went to the one in 2010 and headlining was Ms Dynamite and DJ Yoda. I spent most of the time in the Reggae room. Gentlemans Dub Club, Nucleus Roots, Iration Steppas, Aba Shanti. Was mental.

Not many things i miss about Manchester, but the Dub nights (and illegal raves in clapped out warehouses) that were on pretty much every week are something ill never forget.

My graduation ball in Summer '10 was a great night but a tremendous waste of money. £35 for entry, nothing more. Kiosks selling food and beer and a pretty pointless solitary fairground ride with a massive queue met us on the other side. Plan B played in the upstairs club, an area nowhere near big enough to fit in all who had purchased tickets. It was good to have a final hoorah with everyone but my god were we short changed. Doing an MA now at a different University, so hopefully the events for that won't be quite as shit.

Mines £47!!!!!

1977 - Leicester Uni Student Union - the original Five Live Stiffs tour - Larry Wallis, Wreckless Eric, Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Ian Dury and the Blockheads. And, to cap it all, it was recorded as one side of a live album of the tour. Don't get much better.

The Hendrix / Ten Years After gig I mentioned earlier was 10 shillings (50p) in 1967. That was the price of five pints of bitter.

The Students Union at Leicester Poly (now De Montfort Univ) used to have their copy of a contract from the '60s for the Jimi Hendrix Experience framed and hanging on the wall. I think it was for £50.
