'We can see you holding hands.
'That's aga-inst social distancing rules..'*

*Unless they are from the same household, in which case it's still a homophobic song.

"It's all gone quiet over there" does still work, but only because you're watching the game on the Sky channel without the artificial crowd noise.

Potentially quite divisive, but the songs we still sing which reference the Goldstone, are they redundant now?

Brighton Aces is probably the most obvious one. We DON'T 'Go Down The Goldstone Ground'. to see the Brighton Aces anymore, not matter how painful that is.

*It's The Old Shoreham Road isn't it?

"To hell with Aston Villa
To hell with Notts Countee
For we'll fight, fight, fight for the Albion
'til we win Division 3"

Remember it well 👍

And another little ditty from that period, sung to the tune of 'The Laughing Policeman'

"We don't carry shotguns and we don't carry lead
we only carry hatchets to bury in your head
we're the heroes of the North Stand
fanatics every one
we all hate Aston Villa
and Bournemouth, Bournemouth, Bournemouth"

and the ironic one when we were losing
Sung to 'Knees up Mother Brown'

"Oh we're not very good
we're not very good
we're not very
we're not very
we're not very good"

Usually followed by

"All we are saying
is give us a goal
all we are saying
is give us a goal"

Sung to Lennon's 'Give Peace A chance

I see no problem, still, with "walking down the Shoreham Road" which was the lyric I always remember.

The song I find least likely to be on the jukebox of recapitulation, however, is the one with 'widdle' and '****' in it. Seemed a bit unsavoury to me even at the time.

Ironically a fairly easy one to update if wanted as we could just sing "Going Down The Lewes Road". Although "We All Go Down The American Express Community Stadium" doesn't have quite the same flow.

In these far more enlightened times, 'Ted McDougal, super LGBTQIA' just doesn't fit like the original lyric used to, so lucky he retired about 40 years ago!

Build a bonfire has been obsolete for over twenty years now. Thank f*ck.

I was just going to post BaB

Not that it should ever be forgotten.

I don't recognise many of the songs sung these days and not many that we used to sing @ the Goldstone seem to have survived bar the obvious.

I recall singing 7 sons of father Abraham briefly late 80's, with Comrade Sam and a few others!

That wasn't what I heard, but it may well be what you heard.

Perhaps we need a football chant equivalent of the 'Scuse me while I kiss this guy' misheard lyric list
