currently managing Tromso who are the most northerly club on earth, got to the final knockout stages of qualifying for the europa league, and in the chase for the title at the end of the season - really good fun, but really hard to keep hold of your better players. got my new laptop arriving tomorrow, so might start again, but this time with a lower-rated Scandinavian team, see if I can make my way from the lower reaches of Scandinavia to the big leagues. Bit more interesting than the standard English lower league challenge, depends if i can stick with it

I've had a soft spot for Tromso since I ended up managing them on an fm years ago (was still Champ Man back then I think). Since then I've always loaded the Norwegian leagues...in fact, Scandanavia in general is good fun.

For my 2014 game I started at Macclesfield, resigned after 6 games and have since taken over at Wrexham. Sunday League experience is the way forward!

Frutos I'm managing CD Puerta Bonita who were promoted to Segunda B 2 last season. The Spanish leagues are interesting, there's lots of very good skilled older players many more to go around than the English leagues but that has to be balanced with plenty of u23 players due to league requirements.

As you'd expect I love the Spanish leagues and probably spend most of my FM time in them over the year.

Aside from Barca (which I find a bit dull TBH), you'll generally find me at Valencia, Villarreal, Gimnastic Tarragona, Real Oviedo or Rayo Vallecano.

I think I might start a new game tonight. I got Brighton promoted during the beta so maybe time now to try my hand in the lower leagues. Maybe start unemployed and see what I get offered.

Your previous experience will define what you get offered, if you start with Sunday League (do it!) you'll need to start employed otherwise you'll never get a club come for you. By the same token, if you pick ex-international then you'll get plenty of offers.

Good advice, thanks! I usually start as professional footballer as I find international footballer makes things a bit too easy in terms of motivating etc.

I'm wondering why they haven't got something equivalent to 'student of the game' as there are a few high profile managers now who have not had a playing career.

No worries, FM's at its best for me when I end up somewhere bizarre or a bit crap...'Sunday League' start can make that happen.

Good point about 'Student of the Game', it is possible to build that sort of career (again, Sunday League, start at bottom and work way up) and eventually hit world class. Otherwise, I'd suggest that 'Professional' would be the closest to it, gives you a good base/reputation to start from without making you seem like Mourinho :)

not true at all - as long as you have the lowest leagues loaded up you will get offers from clubs in the lowest leagues - for example in the beta you could get the stockport job and if you had leagues loaded elsewhere, some decent Irish teams

Nope.

Anyone else find themselves only really being troubled by shite teams?! I seem to get this with every FM.

Shaping up nicely for promotion at the start of this season, Latka at CB has been a revelation, Ulloa, Buckley and Andrews have been netting consistently and we're not leaking too many either. Greer has been my best player so far surprisingly, but McAnuff and Leadbitter are just bedding into the team and are looking good.

Wishing I cashed in on Liam when I had the chance to get £6 million though, think I will have to ship him out in January before he only has 12 months left on his contract. I asked Greer to have a word with him to try and cheer him up though, so maybe it will be ok. He is like Raphael Branco in FM12, bloody liability.

What are (or were) the problems? If it's that the ratings have been fluctuating massively then I've had it with my full backs, if not, my FB's are just really inconsistent!

That was the bunny..... Im using a tactic without FBs so cant be sure but ratings do seem to have settled down.
