who do you play on the wings? i would have thought having david lopez or bruno on the right might work as they can play a bit defensively but having buckley and lua lua playing would be suicide?

Orlandi and David Lopez as i only use actual midfielders, with the 2 supporting strikers up top who act as wingers and get the assists. LuaLua isnt greatly rated on the game, but if you keep his player status as "Rotation" or "Backup" - he will be fine with not playing much. Sold Buckley to Celtic for over £3 Million too, as i would have never used him, same with Bruno and Calderon.

For Dunk, i didnt loan him out and thats probably the best thing to do if you play my formation, as he will always feature - he got an av rating of 7.84 in my Championship winning season !! Although i never played Upson as all my other DC's were better. CMS is also a good player to sell once fit (so January basically), only 2/5 stars and could get a decent amount back.

comparing SIGames and EA is no contest - EA Sports are the epitome of evil

Indeed, you only have to look at some of EA's pathetic attempts at ripping off FM, the "scouting" system, contracts, press conferences etc

FIFA is for children, Football Manager is for men

EA also use their financial clout to monopolise sports and then create mediocre games year after year with no competition - i dont understand how they are allowed to do that - Madden and NHL have been diabolical ever since they got exclusive licenses because they know they don't have to try anymore

Get a game like NBA 2K13 or MLB the Show and of course Football Manager and you know how a game SHOULD be made and how good they can be - unfortunately EA knows they can get away with basic changes every year with games like Madden and FIFA, because the Ultimate Team teens continue to play and spend away regardless

the problem is people will buy fifa/madden/cod every year, even if barely anything has changed - in the case of fifa and cod, to give them their dues, they managed to get together a good game, however, they can then prcoeed to change barely anything for the next 6 or 7 years and just milk it to death because people don't know any better....

Season 2 has just ended in the Prem and I finished 11th W13 D7 L18 -7 46 points .... spent 11.3Mil on 21 players (including loans) and got rid of 44 players (including loans and repeat loans) making 4.48MIL .... Jeremy Morel (singed on a free this season from OM) & was my best player 7.73 over 37 games, Dunk was 2nd with 7.65 in 24 (4) games (this game really loves him) ..... for the 2nd season a winger was the highest goalscorer! Craig Noone this time (only 35k from Cardiff!) 14 in 37 games ..... Worst player was Lualua 6.68 2(11) games .... Signing of the season probs Craig Noone 35k & worst signing probs Nicklas Bendtner £3.4MIL (failed to score a goal in 8 games and was injured alot)

Already have 10 players coming in ready for the new season and ready to release alot of the old dead wood, also agreed to sell Ulloa to Boca Juniors for 3MIL so far.

Again they really rate our squad, having a cracking season so far, just got past the Doncaster game! (QPR have just signed Neil Warnock as manager ha!) Sent Ince, JFC and Dunk in on loan, bought in Crusat, Boumsong, Vellios and Annan. Enjoying my teams defensive record....

I have bought FM to for the first time since about 2005 and am very rusty. I would normally play as either Sunderland or Brighton and want an "easy" first go to get me back in to it! Would you recommend Brighton as it appears many of you are doing well with them in season 1?

Is it worth a buy so early? Absolutely BEASTING FM13 at the moment, 530 hours put in >_>

LOL

I may just get it for Christmas, it's certainly going to be a wrench to leave my West Brom save, nearly 240 hours played and an incredibly loyal and talented team.

Not a bad career at all there.

I finished my 5th season with Villarreal in 3rd place in La Liga (so qualifying for the Champions League next season) and a trophy at last in the form of the Europa League, by virtue of an incredible 5-2 win over Hamburg in the Final.

As a result of all that, I've been given a new 4-year contract.

Season Six was where it all clicked - only reached the Last 16 of the CL, but only suffered 3 league defeats all season en route to becoming the first team other than Real and Barca for 14 years (counting real life and the previous in-game seasons) to be crowned Champions of Spain, 5 points clear of Barca and 13 clear of a very average Madrid side.

I ended up biting the bullet and buying this a week before release. Am really impressed with it this year. They've worked wonders with how tactics are set up; it's so easy to get a team playing the way you want them to. Provided you have the players and the tactical nous to know what and when to switch it up you can do very well.

I just finished first season in charge of the Albion. Promoted as champions with a 13-point lead. Played an offensive 4-3-2-1, much like I did in FM13, with great success. Short passing, playing down the wings, Ulloa as a deep lying forward with Buckley on the right and Kaz/Orlandi on the left acting as inside forwards. Midfield of Crofts, Kasami and Agustien were rocks, keeping the pace of the game where I wanted it. Ward, Dunk, Greer and Bruno were the back four all season; couple of changes when Bruno needed some rest.

Key signings:

Patjim Kasami - Loan
Jorge Casado - £350k from Real Madrid
Antonio Adan - Free (most clean sheets in the country by the end of the season)

Sales:

Bridcutt - Hull £6.5m
Lopez - Cardiff - £2m
Brezovan - Everton - £80K (bugger knows why but I took the cash anyway)

Now time to shore up for the Prem. Decided against keeping any of the loan players so now to get some players in! There are a bunch of quality youngsters being released so I'm planning on snapping them up on frees and sending them out on loans whilst buying some experienced players to do the job of keeping us up.

Somewhere over there...
Going to stick with FM2013 for a little while longer, just starting to get success with St Ettiene (my 8th club in this save game)
Downloaded a database where the rules are that English clubs cannot sign anyone with nationality outside of UK or Ireland, which was a very tough challenge, shame the database only changed the rules in England, would have been great if all nations had similar rules.

At Boxing Day on mine, just beaten Charlton 4-1 to go top. Tight 6 points between top 5. Calderon and Ward have been stand out players. Signed Vellios, Leigh Griffiths, Ryo Myiachi all on loan. Vellios was poor but Griffiths is my top scorer. Got rid of Greer, Bruno and Orlandi, who refused to play. Bridcutts starting to annoy me too and will probably go soon. Signed Pulido (Madrid reserves) for 600k but looks decent young player. Recently got Fran Merida (ex arsenal and watford youngster) on free after contract in brazil ended.

Was going to go for Adan but wanted big wages, as did Ciro (from Brazil) which im not prepared to pay. Lualua isn't rated very high on the game. Ulloa's barely scored for me. Barnes has 5 in 5 but was out for 2 months. Had a recent bad run of form which I've just got out of. Even lost 6-3 at home to Mboro....

Couple of things I've noticed on this years game...

Whatever I seem to say to the players generally seem to be ignored or they feel 'I lack credibility'?? Would've had positive reactions on previous versions. Just makes it pointless me doing team talks??

Also the players keep moaning about thir training workload.. Remember on another version you could adjust it but can't find anything this year apart from match training. And my preferences are set for me to run training??

I am tempted, but I don't get the play time to do it justice and in any case I generally struggle to figure out how to break teams down.

What I need is a noobs guide to the tactics !

What have you set your former experience as? The level of respect your players have for you in your first job will vary hugely based upon this. I remember a career with 1.FC Koln with my playing career set as a former Sunday leaguer, almost all the players had abysmal morale and many had the text in their info page: "Thinks his new manager's lack of experience will hinder the club's progress". Best advice I can offer is to bring in some of your own players to try and kick start winning and this will get the old guard on your side...maybe
