Lord Bracknell
On fire
As for Scotland, why is Labour bothered? A lot of the party's supporters have defected to the SNP and are no doubt today celebrating the election of a socialist government at Holyrood.
The Tories would do well to note the abject failure of their pernicious campaign in the London mayoral election. They should probably ask Lynton Crosby for a refund as well, as much as he got the mood of the GE right, he got the mood of this one disastrously wrong.
Illustrates the difference between London and most of the rest of England. There's a none-too-dissimilar difference between Brighton and the rest of Sussex.
Apparently a senior Tory described the campaign as blowing “a dog whistle in a city where there’s no dog”. That nails it.
Because they want a socialist government in England too and without the Scottish votes it's likely that England will permanently return a Tory government. I'd say that's quite bothersome. As for Scotland, why is Labour bothered? I wish the SNP could migrate south. Nearest thing to the brand of socialist politics that I grew up with.

It looks like Khan is going to be mayor. Apparently Goldsmith's vote collapsed even in strong Tory areas. I can't say I'm surprised as ROSM says he ran a very bad campaign and didn't deserve it. It will be interesting to see how Khan positions himself in the Labour Party after this. He's had a few skeletons in his closet regarding friendships with some unsavoury characters but appears genuine in trying to put that behind him.
John Rentoul made a very astute comment that it could be a double-edged sword for Corbyn. If he follows Boris Johnson's example being Mayor gives Khan power outside the confines of the normal party apparatus and so can go off message with his own agenda. It's also a great place to build his own power base. I suspect and hope that Khan will try to build bridges with the Jewish community quickly and will also be seen to come down harder on the rotten boroughs of Tower Hamlets et al. If he is an effective mayor then it can only be good for British politics that there's a spread of political views in positions of power. The London Mayor is a very big gig, Boris made himself a nuisance to the Government, let's hope Khan does the same.
I agree with that. Not sure he was 'friends' with anyone unsavoury, though. In his day job he attended a few debates where there were a few nut jobs also on the panel. If that were a hanging offence nobody would agree to appear on Question Time. No, that was all part of the Crosby smear mix. Evidently folk saw through that . . . . Khan sounds like your typical cosmopolitan Londoner, not waving his religion or whatever about. Just like two of my line managers - one a Jew and the other a Muslim; not in 20 years have the antecedents ever been relevant. And he has already demonstrated his distance from Jezza. It will be nice to have a London mayor who has a bit of humility, and who isn't using the job as a stepping stone for 'greater things', for a change. And . . . exhale.
I wish the SNP could migrate south. Devolution apart, the nearest thing to the brand of socialist politics that I grew up with.
Sturgeon must be pissing into her silk knickers with a hessian gusset right now
can't even win a majority
So how long before the calls for Khan to introduce Sharia Law start?
