Bill Roache (ken Barlow) has been arrested on suspicion of a historical sexual assault now.

Source, twitter

OK, if the alledged did occur and it was in 1967 what realistic chance is there of a prosecution (unless there were credible witnesses). Fair play for coming forward after all this time (unless it is a scam).

I had some form of hope that there was some doubt or that the allegations were spurious. The fact that he has admitted guilt on so many charges has shocked me.

Let's hope his victims sue the living daylights out of him leaving him penniless and broken before he takes the easy way out.

Piece by piece, my childhood is being dismantled.

Of course this is not about me. The story has to be that of the victims being heard and believed. It seems that the police have gone about this intelligently and methodically. The knee jerk reaction is to question how a prosecution can succeed when so much time has passed and no physical evidence exists. However, it seems that in Hall's case, none of the victims knew each other and the allegations spanned decades but they all told a similar story about his manner of approach. It is no mean feat to bring a sufficiently compelling case that the accused admits their guilt and the police should be congratulated.

It has seemed like a witch hunt, but maybe there is more evidence than I had first thought on all of the celebrities charged.

I am still trying to work out above and beyond confession, why would he confess and what kind of evidence they presented to him.

In many ways although the charges relate to quite vile incidents they remain quite vague historic actions that would seem unlikely to prosecute a guilty verdict.

Over there
Was discussing the Stewart Hall confession at work, and although his crimes are truely vile, some of my colleagues were giving him some small shreds of respect for admitting his crimes. Which in turn, I believe means the victims won't have to relive their horrors in court. What are your views on this?
I was going to start another thread about it, but best to keep all the celebrity nonce stuff together on here.

Does that mean we can forgive Gary Glitter for his services to terrace songs in the 70's?
