Ever is a long time. Looks like ANOther will win this poll. He was an old fashioned winger - and includes "Flash" Gordon who wasn't fast, more like Stanley Matthews, and Frankie Howard, who was fast.

Gerry Ryan or Steve Penney. Penney was the better player, but Gerry Ryan gets the vote because he made a bigger contribution for the Albion, Penney being unlucky with injuries.

Sully was better than both, but his best games were from midfield rather than on the wing. Tony Towner also highly rated. Howard Wilkinson worth a mention.

I'm behind you!
Probably the most effective wingers of all time were the pair Billy Reed on the right and Jimmy Leadbetter on the left. Dennis (Flash) Gordon and Frankie Howard were right up there with the best too.

Jimmy Langley was a tremendous wing-back before the term was even thought of.

Other - aka Sully. Tricky, clever, fast and later to become a creative midfielder of real quality.

Happy days. And only the Albion could boast having simultaneously a Welsh international called O'Sullivan and an Irish (N) international called Morgan.

Tony Towner should be on here. Had the pleasure/misfortune of marking him a few times, when he was at crawley and then twice when he was at Saltdean. Took the piss out of me, and he was giving me at least 15 years at the time......fookin lightning quick and skillful. Last time I playd him.......I booted him into the stands about 5 mins in.....he soon disappeared to the other side of the pitch !

Steve penney for me was the best player I actually saw in the brighton shirt. Brooker was also quality on his day but too inconsistent.

Thanks for that it was indeed Dennis Gordon I dont know where I got the name Johnny from probably the inside forward from Pompey.

The difference between Jimmy Langley and most 'wingbacks' as we know them is that he could defend as well as attack unlike a lot now who can get forward but not defend, Wayne Bridge comes to mind.
