No doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dean Saunders play on the wing when he first came here?

McGhee tried to play Leon Knight (he's alright  ) on the wing. Without much success, has to be said

Where was he a success above league 3 pray tell???

Ryan would be my choice, he's the only one who played consistently well at the top level from those in the list for us.

Malcolm Poskett - could run the left wing faster sideways with the ball than the opposing defender trying to get it off him!

Bishops Stortford
Gerry Fell

He was winger with simple tactics - Kick the ball past the full back then outpace him in a sprint and fire a cross into the penalty area.

Both were very good.
In those days a winger got on with playing on the wing, nowadays it's all about 'cutting inside' and all that continentally influenced stuff.
The winger represented the English game, but the last good one for England was (imho) Graeme Le Saux.

Graham Le Saux, a winger, first you go on to describe what a winger should be then claim a left back was the last good winger that played for England! Of English wingers, I would only look at two, Laurie Cunningham and Chris Waddle.

As for BHA, has to be either Gerry Ryan who did it at the top level (Stuart Storer only ever played in the basement and from what I recall wasn't particularly good but was all we could afford) or Steve Penny. Both tended to rely on having the ball at their feet rather than pushing it 10 yrds ahead and chasing it.

Howard Wilkinson should get a mention and of course Kit Napier often played right wing - I remember him scoring from the touchline into the South Stand goal.......................but have to admit that Tony Towner and Wally Gould would head my list as out and out wingers just because they were around through the childhood years I most remember and most enjoyed
