Not sure about finest, but importantly it is FINER than Hassocks. Hurstpierpoint - home of mid Sussex's PREMIERE village fair.

Fair enough, and yes, clearly MUCH finer than Hassocks. 800th St Lawrence Fair next year, it's been going a while.

Clearly you haven't been to Hassocks, the ginger step-child of Mid Sussex villages.

:lolol: but still not quite as bad as the pretentious Haywards Heath with it's "Heart of Mid Sussex" sign.

Hurstpierpoint is a fabulous village. This is illustrated with such celebs setting up home as Jimmy Hill, Mrs Mcluskey, Jonathan Pearce and Paul Rodgers. And where the f*** is Albourne? Home to the finest primary school on the PLANET

Indeed. Not that I've been for years, but who could forget the magnificent and much anticipated Cuckoo In The Nest competition, that eager villagers would participate in during the run up to the fair?

Hassocks only EXISTS because the culturally sophisticated residents of 1840s Hurstpierpoint sniffily declined to have one of those new-fangled "railway" things passing through and bringing the wrong sort of people into the village. Thankfully the London to Brighton route was diverted a couple of miles east, causing Hassocks to be invented, which ultimately- and predictably- became home to many of "those sort of people". Bloody new towns.

These are the people who objected to a 99p store appearing in South Road: they were hardly going to approve the more realistic "Arse of Mid Sussex" slogan, were they?

Hassocks has only EXISTED since 2000, before that it was just postal district and a railway station somewhere between Keymer and Clayton. No history whatsoever and the only thing going for it is a TOP DRAWER secondary school.

I fully concur about the TOP DRAWER secondary school, though to be fair, if only Hurstpierpoint had a secondary school, it would be better of course. But many of this board's most intelligent, witty and profound posters had the good fortune to attend Downlands.

I can't actually think of anything notable about Hassocks, apart from the county's most infamous combined pet-shop-&-porn Emporium on Keymer Parade.

PS Kazenga LuaLua was also a resident of Hurstpierpoint.

There is Hurstpierpoint College - current employer of Tucker.

I can only ever associate it with swapping car keys.

And Greta Scacchi having a falling out with her neighbours over access past her drive.

Well of course. Those of us whose parents couldn't quite find the odd ten grand a term in loose change (or, during my era, had the misfortune to be a GIRL) were forced to slum it in Hassocks rather than enjoy the Hogwarts-style experience of Hurstpierpoint College. But I don't think I'm any the worse for the experience. At least I didn't have to go to Oakmeeds

What kind of DEVIANTS do you think live in Hurstpierpoint?

In completely unrelated news, the village is also home to the Apollo Sun Club resort, for all your naturist needs

Is it wrong that I laughed to myself upon reading that they advertise regular "spit roasts at weekends"?
